Apparently, HTC has announced the Australian version of Touch Diamond today that operates on 850/2100 MHz spectrum. So it works on Telstra NextG. The same model would probably be good for AT&T in USA.

It may work for T-mobile too. They use the 2100 MHz band in the US, though it is only active in the city of New York right now.

It's a shame that with all the other usability improvements on the Diamond, the camera is still TERRIBLE.

It might have a higher MP count, but the iPhone camera takes better pictures than that!

Shocking... and a shame, because it's one of the things that would have tempted me away.

Actually, the camera on the Diamond is quite good. However, one needs to remove the plastic cover that protects the lens to get awesome quality pics. I think it's rediculous that someone needs to possibly violate warrantee by opening the phone just to remove a plastic cover.

Check out pic quality (with and without cover) here:

Yeah, the Diamond's camera is almost Nokia N95 quality.
Here's a full resolution sample (with the battery cover film still on):

!!!

So the only reason it's rubbish is because the plastic covering it is low quality? My god, that's even worse!

What on earth were they thinking..

Has anyone got a full sample without the haze-inducing cover please?

(thanks for the info guys, Diamond is back in the running!)

No, it will not work for T-Mo. T-Mo USA uses 1700/2100. The only one it may work for is AT&T and only in the areas where 850 is the band that is used for UMTS and only if the chipset can do both uplink and downlink on 850 only which it may because Telstra is one of the few carriers in addition to AT&T that does both on one band. Areas where AT&T is using 1900 will not work with the Australian version of the Diamond.

It has, however, quad band EDGE/GSM and therefore will work perfectly for AT&T on their EDGE network unlike the current European offering which is only Tri-Band EDGE/GSM missing the 850 band that AT&T is using for EDGE as well.
