It is the first Windows Mobile smartphone without touch-screen made by HTC for a long time. It goes on sale next month (September 2008) in Europe. While rest of the world thinks that the best QWERTY keyboard is the ...

Maybe you should not so much impose your personal taste when announcing phones. There are people who very much like slide out keyboards (I do) as they don't steel any space on the front of your device as long as you don't use them. And in most cases they are much more two hand friendly. And seriously your "obsession" with 3.5 mm stereo plug. HTC phones use the same ExtUSB connection since a few generations and if you desperatly want a headset without a microphone get one of these really cheap and small ExtUSB to 3.5 mm plug adapters.
Instead of your limited view you should thank HTC for making a variety of phones. Something for different tastes/preferences. With the android phone they will even give you the chance of choosing your OS. |

I don't agree and I think most of the rest of the world. A qwerty keyboard on the front like palm is just not convenient. You have tiny buttons and that makes it very hard and very slow to type. The device gets bigger or you must have a smaller screen.
So i prefer smaller devices with slide out qwerty. Very fast typing, smaller device with big screens. They are thicker but I can live with that. |

I prefer the front qwerty like the s620/s630 and the landscape screen. Perhaps we will see a s640 soon with a GPS like this one has? _________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving

well after using a few slide out devices as well as qwerty bars, I found to prefere the latter. the reason simply is that most of the time i use the device, i need the keyboard too. and if it is just to use menus or search lists.
of course it limits screen size, but there is a always a trade off to be made.
i had an 9502 with VGA screen and slide out keyboard. and while it was a great device, the i780 is just that much more usable. |

The above comments simply confirms that fact that everyone has different preference. Hence it is great to see many different form factors available on WM phones. One size doesn't fit all. _________________ Proud owner of HTC Touch Diamond and i-mate JASJAM. |

An interesting take from Akihabaranews.com >>
| Quote: | | Yesterday HTC announced the S740 with its dual keyboard (QWERTY and KEYPAD). Basically this device is another clone of the HTC Touch Diamond and look pretty simillar with what we have in Japan since years... (Willcom). Now you can still argue that the HTC is 2/3G, has a GPS module, but... our little S740 is still stuck with a QVGA Screen, No Touch Screen and Windows Mobile® 6.1 Standard when here in Japan we have... VGA, Touch Screen and Windows Mobile® 6.1 Pro version in the very same “body”.... Ok HTC, so what’s next ? |
nb. I would mostly agree as I’ve seen the Willcom phone in person, it has a really impressive screen resolution (high density VGA in comparison to those found on larger screens) and a good form factor. However, I think HTC wins hands down in build quality as the Willcom phone just feels very plastic (almost toy like) and lacks 3G/GPS functionality, though I would like to see HTC move up to VGA screens as its definitely feasible (based on many Japanese flip and candy bar phones). |
