This coming from a guy who has a Imate 9502! wow what a smart guy!
Anyway Ive used one of these samsung and trust me the WQVGA is more useable than my tiny VGA screen on my diamond! Oh and it seems faster too,
What I'm trying to say here is "check it out in person before you pass judgement" like I did with the imate which I passed up on because of build quality. Laughing Laughing Laughing I still cannot believe Ive found someone who was sucked into buying one Shocked Laughing Laughing

nor do i, just read your post again. its sunday.

i hope the xperia is great as we need great devices to spur other co's to make better devices.

personally i dont like sliding keyboards due to the extra bulk, but the keyboards are good. i prefer candy shape like my i780.

a friend of mine has the blackberry bold and its is amazing.

my concern of the xperia is how unfinished it will be at release. the omnia needs a new firmware update and already several have been released.

having the hp 214 with a 4" vga screen is awesome, but for me a balance between size, battery and weight is needed for a phone.

Hi gavinfabl,
I agree with you and i'm planing to buy Samsung omnia when it arives here in my country. But I have a question about the 240x400 screen resolution: Will it run softwares and games that are 320x240?

thanx

Ultimatly that is going to depend on the developer. When Microsoft started to support multiple resolutions in Windows 2003 SE they also released tools, guidelines, and device emulators so that developers could ensure that their applications would be compatible with the existing supported resolutions (240x320, 240x240, 480x640) and techniques to make the programs compatible with resoltuions to come. However as such things go there are some developers that seemed to ignore these tools and techniques and only develop their applications to render properly on a small set of resolutions. So it's not unusual even today to come across programs that don't render properly on non-QVGA screens.

If you have a game you want to test before you purchase a device I would suggest using one of the emulators to see how it looks. Please note that the performance of a game on the emulator will be subpar, so you would only be able to use it to ensure that the game properly renders on the entire screen.

See your reply to your private message. I havent saved a copy of the sent reply, so could you paste it into the thread.

In a nutshell gameplay is not an issue at all. Some games that rotate the screen need the Omnia rotation turned off first, although newer games dont like Astraware Insquarium Deluxe. Older games just locate themselves in middle of screen with a gap at the bottom and top, but the game will play fine. occasionnally you will see the graphics from previous screen in the gaps. BUT it is not as issue. Apps so far are fine, plus Samsung have installed an amazing array of good multimedia stuff.

I will be reviewing this device in a lot of detail soon.
