Seriously this site's reputation is going downhill. It's called msmobiles.com and trashing windows mobile at every turn is becoming the norm @ this place without any credible research before posting a story.
Objectivity is fine, but you can't be objective if you have no credibility.
I work in mobility so here is the fact:
Pocket IE has an update. NOT a major build.
Pocket IE in IE6 production mode has NOT been launched, and it wouldn't be sneaked in without anyone knowing.
Most importantly, this "Desktop" view menu option has existed ever since Windows Mobile 2005. Seriously do you guys even HAVE a windows mobile device?
All it does is dictate of the browser should adhere to table widths, or wrap content to fit in a vertical scroll only mode. Aka what people consider "mobile view". This is NOT new.
Please bring credibility back to the front main page. These kinds of stories are brutal. FOX News brutal. |

Actually, far earlier: PIE has supported the two (original / fit to screen) modes since PPC2002 (late 2001), with One column added with WM2003SE. |

I think you both have missed the point here. The Mobile/Desktop option isn't just altering the layout like the previous original/ fit to screen / one column options. It's also changing the identificiation string sent back to the web server, so you can choose whether it knows you are using a mobile device or not. When set to "desktop" it identifies simply as "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)", so you get served the full content, not some stripped-down, formatted for PDA, page. Athough a simple change, the only way of doing that previously was by registry hacks. |

Sure I don't disagree about the headers but if you read the article and how it presents itself and the final statements. Their indicating this is Pocket IE with IE6 rendering mode and that it never delivered what it promised, so lets rely on Opera etc.
Opera is good don't get me wrong however the entire article is terrible. Feels like a smear campaign these days. Everything is twisted. |

IE 6 has been on Windows CE for a couple of years now. Porting to WM couldn't have been too tough.
As for its looks... that's easy to fix:
Anyone should be able to use IE6 as a component in their own browser shell program.
So, just as happened with Pocket IE, lots of people will no doubt be creating fancy tabbed browsers with it, fingertip scrolling options and so on. |

| The new IE for Windows Mobile will have finger scrolling etc. That has already been made very public as well as other features. |
