Given the strong fundamentals of the USA economy and the high value of our currency why wouldn't some one want to invest in our market?

For the optimist note that "there are no plans" is not the same as "we will never." We will may see one yet. Though it would be nice if USA carriers agreed on a band and technology.

yes, that's the problem that carriers in USA use different bands than the rest of the world so it is too big risk for HTC to release phones with American bands... because these phones are not sellable elsewhere.

the qualcomm chip supports both USA band and europe band, HTC just prefer to disable USA band!
look at Sony X1, they have no problems putting USA and europe band in it!

The term "disable" may be misleading here. It suggest that extra effort was was expended on making sure it would not work on American 3G bands as opposed to simply not making the effort to support it. Not much different than the TyTn II units that contained chips that support 3D acceleration but lack the software to support it (the chip isn't disabled, just not fully utilized).

I am disappointed in the decision, but Europe, Asia, Africa, and Brazil all support the same 3G bands. By targetting the 2100 UMTS band support for most of the world is present. The American market is unique and the 3G band is dependent on the carrier. Support for the 4 major carriers would require that the phone support CDMA and GSM along with the bands that are unique to AT&T, T-mobile, Verizon, and Sprint. Even if they chose to only support the GSM carriers they would have to individually support the upstream and downstream bands for T-mobile and AT&T. There's more effort required to support the USA market. There's also less opportunity for direct marketting in the USA market since most of us expect to pay rates for phones that will only reachable through subsidized pricing.

In the USA the manufacturers must aim to please the carriers, not the people.

qualcomm chips supports both USA bands 850/1900 and europe 2100. it the software or bios that control it, enable or disable. take a look at your home pc bios, see how easy to enable or disable feature?
look at HTC history, they have no problems putting 850/1900/2100 3G on their earlier phone! if they able to put 850/1900/2100 3g on earlier phones, y cant now?
