The world can't even agree on simple thing like power socket. Ultimately everyone has to suffer. Money are wasted on design and manufacture things that does the same thing, and the thing is also more expensive as a result. _________________ Proud owner of HTC Touch Diamond and i-mate JASJAM. |

China has more poeple than USA and Europe together and still USA has different bands than Europe... so if USA can't get common standards, don't blame Chinese! |

The differences in power connectors are based on infastructure decisions that were made before internationalization was as important as it is now and isn't really a simple matter of agreement. I wouldn't take differences in sockets to be in any way representational of an inability to agree during design time.
I get the feeling that some incompatibilities in phone networks may be intentional and part of the carrier's attempts to keep a stronger graps of controlling their networks and avoiding the "dumb pipe" scenario. Over the past few years in the USA we've seen that carriers are required to allow a customer to unlock a phone after meeting certain obligations but while a phone may become SIM unlocked it is still technology locked to a specific carrier; if you take it to a different carrier then it either won't work or won't work as well as it does on its intended carrier. If I decided to drop AT&T and go to another provider I either need to purchase new equipment (from sprint or verizon) or will find that my phone looses 3G abilities on T-mobile. This is probably better from the phone carrier's perspective because it adds an expense to me switching networks and discourages me to do so. _________________ MCAD .Net , MCTS (Web, Windows) |
