Microsoft again neglects Windows Mobile by releasing second major version of Silverlight (Microsoft Flash) but still not releasing it for Windows Mobile. Is anybody at Microsoft's higher management even interested ...

Umm and what browser would you have used if they had released a mobile version? Last time I checked and I haven't checked in awhile so I might be wrong but, Mobile Internet Explorer 6 was the only mobile web browser that would have Silverlight support. And as everyone knows the public release of that is not out yet.

Edward J. R,

You are not well informed at all are you? This headline must be only for shock/wow factor because if you knew anything about what was going on in the Windows Mobile developer space you wouldn't be writting these stupid articles.

Our company monitors some blogs for mobile news because we are a mobile company but we are this close to removing this blog because its becoming like a FOX News of mobile news.

Seriously. Do you even have a clue what Microsoft is working on? I can't say much but there are betas going on right now.

Seriously. They showed Silverlight on Windows Mobile @ MIX08 and they showed Silverlight running on a Nokia Symbian phone.

Your statements of "does any windows management care about windows mobile?" Give me a break. Do you know they quadroupled the windows mobile divisions head count? Do you have ANY clue what is going on out there?

I'm sorry but these headlines/posts are becoming of the FOX news moronic calibur.

Please regain the credibility this site once had.

Windows Mobile developer space? I know MANY Windows Mobile developing companies and people and they are moving to iPhone and other platforms. I know what is going on.

and I couldn't care less about WORDS and announcements, I judge everything/everybody by deeds. Deeds of Microsoft: Windows Mobile 7 delayed till the end of 2009 and many announced things not released yet even though expected/announced arrival times passed.

I think that it is YOU dear friend, who are misguided and who does not understand some things...

And no Silverlight apps cannot run outside the browser. Silverlight is a browser plugin. You need a browser host to run Silverlight apps.

The only way to run Silverlight outside of the browser is via hacks, a not supported operation.

The "browserless" version of the APIs is called WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation).

Silverlight is WPF's younger brother. A subset if you will, with additional browser/html/javascript interop APIs.

I do agree that roadmaps slipping is dissapointing but to say they don't care is incorrect.

They are even porting Silverlight to more Windows Mobile OS's than originally planned to satisfy the developers so they can target more possible platforms.

iPhone is a good device, has alot of bling but for most business people, and in our sales experience WM/BB still dominates although the iPhone gathers the hype.

Like I said I agree dates slipping is a problem but they are taking on more than originally planned on these projects. Silverlight is one of the fastest concept->development->release products in MS's suite. Everyone wants SL on every platform, when they only released SL1 approx a year ago and everyone wanted SL2 right away.

I just really don't have any respect for the FOX News type wording in the articles as of late. You can convey the truth in respectful wording. Things like this are what make media not very credible:

"Silverlight 2 released, Windows Mobile STILL missing in action"

"Microsoft again neglects Windows Mobile by releasing second major version of Silverlight (Microsoft Flash) but still not releasing it for Windows Mobile. Is anybody at Microsoft's higher management even interested in Windows Mobile? "

I can't even begin to explain how unprofessional that is. If I were to talk like this in a board meeting I would be fired. This is FOX News quality here.

Calling it Microsoft Flash is like not understanding what the technology includes. It has a lot of similar aspects to Flash but it has an entire suite of things much more capable than Flash currently has as an application / communication framework.

Like I said, I understand the dissapointment but please lets bring the credibility back to the wording on this site.

Check out the video’s of HTC devices running Silverlight on WinMo, courtesy of Mix08: http://silverlight.net/learn/mobile.aspx

I believe Microsoft is working away on WPF for mobile and their big Silverlight/WPF push will come with WinMo7, though this is by no means official! Think along the lines of a fully WPF Vector based, resolution independent operating system and applications core. Either way I’d rather they took their time and did it right, and not push-out something half baked..
