Orange is a mid-side European operators active in several countries in Europe, and Orange is selling iPhone 3G almost in all its divisions all over Europe, except for one: UK, where O2 has exclusivity for iPhone. So...

This article actually shows how your technical statistic comparison fails to explain why the iphone has now a larger market share than windows mobile. Second only to blackberry but growing. Yet another fixation on the relatively unimportant multi touch as a technical statistic yet again shows a complete lack of understanding on why iphone is beating windows mobile devices hands down and the US market share shows this.

The problem with windows mobile is its dependency on HTC. A company who alienated a lot of customers over the Kaiser graphics driver issue. Where cheap plastic screens no matter what the resolution will always be second best to the iphones captive touch. The Touch HD like all windows mobile devices is unusable in direct sunlight. The iphone is crystal clear in all conditions. The hard glass screen with a hughly responsive operatinh system is always going to beat a fiddly user interface on cheap plastic touch screens.

I don't agree with this. I have the Touch Diamond and used in Australia where we have plenty (and very strong) sunlight, the Diamond screen is very readable under direct sunlight. There are many challenges for WM phones but the screen quality is definitely not one of them.

apart from the fact that one can't put podcasts and other MP3 files over USB to iPhone in corporate environment (where installing iTunes is out of question), the Safari for iPhone often crashes on websites that are perfectly viewable with Opera Mobile 9.5 (latest version is very solid and renders faster, better).... so please don't tell me about 'hands down' because it is a lie.

I am currently due for an upgrade on t-mobile uk and was patiently waiting for this phone. Its a pity that orange has signed a deal with Htc. My only option now is to buy it up front. Htc should have chosen a company with large customer base, and orange is not the case in UK. Htc is going to shed thousand of prospective customers. It has already happened with kaiser and here they go again with exclusive rights with a small company. Maybe they are not feeling the credit crunch...I guess its time to bite the apple now, who knows. You never know something until you try it.
