EJR, could you expand on what you were talking about when you mentioned the camera's accessibility to developers on Windows Mobile? _________________ MCAD .Net , MCTS (Web, Windows) |

so now when you want to capture photo from within 3rd party application for Windows Mobile, then the camera dialog opens. It means that several application ideas - like remote taking photos, or taking photos in some intervals without presence of people - are not possible in Windows Mobile. It should be possible to capture photos in applications without calling external camera dialog... |

While it's not perfect, an MS developer points out that DirectShow can be used to capture images without the camera capture dialog. He has an example program that takes a picture on timed intervals and uploads it. It seems like an adequate workaround for some scenarios. But in reading the code description it is actually working by opening the camera in video mode and then capturing a single frame from the video. Many phones have cameras whose video resolutions are significantly lower than their still photo resolution. So for some phones that would be less than adequate. _________________ MCAD .Net , MCTS (Web, Windows) |
