If Microsoft is the Matrix, then MVPs are agents of the Matrix.

Really? I find that hard to believe. But if it is true, it is such a waste. Only one of the MVP's I know is a developer. Think how valuable a resource the MVP's could be if they could answer questions based on viewing the source code. |

well, here you can find more info about this source code access! here is an excerpt:
about 200 MVPs had signed licenses for access to available source code
Pleased note however: most MVPs (that I know) don't have enough technical skills to be able to take advantage of this access to source code. No wonder only 200 MVPs - out of total 2600 - applied for such access... |

All in all the overall impact of Microsoft MVPs is however very positive and constitutes one of the most clever marketing tricks of Microsoft corporation
}
Actually, what Microsoft is attempting to foster with the MVP program is the kind of grass-root support that Linux has. MS is jealous of a product with users who care so much they'll actually provide support without clear monetary compensation in return. On the other hand, MS doesn't believe that the GPL is good business sense, so it would be hypocrytical of them not to toss a gratuity or two at MVPs.
And it's not just MVPs that are eligible - I gave a presentation at an MS product launch (WS03) without compensation, and they thanked me with a 'free' Pocket PC afterwards. I am not an MVP. |
