While this direct competitor to iTunes has been launched yesterday, one most notice that it is just BETA - a preview version - therefore not all features are supported. We have got information directly from Microsof...

Very good of you to post another post stating that Microsoft will support PocketPC and Smartphones on its Music Download Service.
But I thought it strange that MS wouldn't support these devices. Now if it was me, I would have done some further research before make the statements you did.
And I would not have been so rude as to state that many of Microsoft's employees are idiots.
So, now that you know that MS will support PocketPC and Smartphones, it would be nice if you would also apologise too. |

The owner of this site never apologises (I think it's part of his superiority complex), but what you said robbyb is quite right, he should apologiser and if he'd done some proper journalistic research in the first place, and not waited for someone to send him the information (because he doesn't know where to look), he may have saved himself some trouble.
But as for this 'dump your iPod' which the moron ranted on about - I don't use an iPod, but I do know that the iPod has a helluva lot more room to store music, isn't as prone to juddering because it's busy trying to receive a call and lose a text message, and it's supported by more companies. That all goes without mentioning that Apple has a public image of cool, innovating and different while Microsoft is known for crashing, bloat and lots of colours but little reliability or functionality. _________________ ________________________

Rather than speculating I invested $0.99 and tried it - it transfers to and plays in my ipaq 4150 just fine.

Pocket PC and particularly smartphone are not supported and not listed on list of supported mobile devices that can play music from MSN Music. That's a fact.
Regarding claims of some indviduals - everybody can claim everything - but tests with screenshots are needd - which I will do both on Pocket PC and on Smartphone.
Anyway: Microsoft itself confirmed: in FUTURE it will be possible to use Pocket PC and Microosft Smartphone to play music from MSN Music, but in meantime it's all just BETA testing... |

What you have neglected to mention is some of the disadvantages of the MSN Music Store:
- the MSN catalog of songs sits at 500,000 currently available on the store (as opposed to licensed) while the iTunes Music Store is already over 1 million.
- MSN charges more than 99c for some songs (up to $4) while Apple charges a flat 99c for every track
- The iPod has now taken 58% of the MP3 player market and continues to increase it's share. This market includes all those little 128MB MP3 flash players as well as HD players.
The chances of mobile phones and PDAs with tiny amounts of flash storage taking over anytime soon using up their batteries as music players is fairly slim.
Heck my SE P900 can store up to 128MB of MP3s but I'm not at all tempted to load it up with MP3s and drain my batteries. I want to take my entire 40GB music library around with me.
However, give it a few more years and once phones start boasting large capacity storage and long battery life when playing music and the situation may change.

The problem with Jacek (the only person who runs this site) is that he expects everybody to reveal their sources of information before he will believe them, yet he doesn't reveal his sources - and I know that some of his sources have proved to be fakes in the past. _________________ ________________________
