Russel's views are valid but he makes one pretty important assumption - that you're trying to sync with other Microsoft products.

What about the 40% of companies that use Lotus Notes? What about all the home users that have realized what an insecure piece of junk that Outlook Express is?

Is it better the sync really well with one piece of software, or is it better to sync "adequetely" with a larger range of software?

I guess that depends on whether you like the software that you're locked to.

You can with with non-MS products too, for example there is SyncML client for Microsoft smartphone (from 3rd party, not MS), that allows for synching with non-Microsoft groupware. So it is possible 100%.

Stinger, All the software Nokia comes out with for syncing with the PC are worse than appalling, they are outright dangerous and perfectly capable of crippling a good working machine with its multiple badly functioning drivers and useless whatnots. After experiencing Nokia software I would have say it would be long time before I ever thought about going back to a Nokia based phone.

Also I believe the reviewer discussed synching with Outlook and Exchange not Outlook Express.
