Wow, the spec looks fantastic!
If it's not too big or massively expensive, I'll be very tempted by it. |

The press release says that it will fit in a pocket comfortably.
It may be a bit expensive, but certainly not much more expensive than 3G phones.
I predict price: 850 Euro without subscription and 400 Euro with 3G subscription from T-Mobile. |

| TMobile USA hasn't brought over any of the MDA phones since the original MDA ( which they were still selling as of Sept 2004 ). It's amazing to me why they treat their US high-power users with such disdain. |

I thought UMTS (WCDMA 2100) was compatible all over the world ? Where are you getting your information from ?
If you look at UMTS world: http://www.umtsworld.com/technology/frequencies.htm
you will see that US has the 2100 area listed as RESERVED. If I read the TMobile press release correctly, the MDA-IV supports the 2100Mhz band. Therefore, when Cingular ( and presumably at some DATE, TMobile as well ) puts forth UMTS service within the US, this phone will be able to support it.
Unless I've missed something, which is entirely possible. In which case, by all means, tell us what the frequencies range differences you're talking about.
Remember, that Europe actually has SEVERAL bands which have been reserved for UMTS service. The question isn't whether those are bands which are used for something else in the US, it's that if the UMTS bands that the MDA-IV supports are compatible between Europe and the US. Which I believe they are. Voicing contrasting points of view is encouraged. |

| From what I've heard on other forums, the primary frequency in the US will be 1900Mhz. |

It says 100cm2, that's smaller then MDA Compact (HTC Magician)
I cannot believe that... _________________ www.ruttensoft.com - Smartphone development

Mate, just one comment about the photos. As far as I know these are official pictures published on the T-Mobile web page. Putting your "msmobiles.com" on top of it is not just pretending that you would have made the pictures, it's also illegal use of protected material and pretty poor style as well.
OK, you are in best company with many others doing exactly the same thing, but I would encourage you to change your way of using 3rd party pictures. _________________ Cheers

You are completely wrong on many levels.
Firstly not only it is not illegal but in fact many companies encourage it - to take their photos instead of 3rd party photos, because their own photos better expose products or better expose brand.
Secondly I have to put "msmobiles.com" logo on all photos, both taken from official pages of companies and our photos because many people are doing: a) deep linking to images from msmobiles.com and thus even without giving a link, they use precious bandwidth b) copy and paste photos from msmobiles without giving credit.
Lately I have seen [certain website] stealing photos/images from ppcw.net and if not ppcw.net logo on them, this theft would not come up.
So, farnold, please don't spread FUD here because you have no idea of reasons. And above are just 2 reasons out of many ... |

Funny, I've seen zero mention of that, it's always been discussed as the 2100 for the US. Again...WHERE are you getting your information. Please supply a link, a news article, something to substantiate that, because I'd seriously like to know. |

As you say for yourselves: their own photos and not yours

Having other doing the wrong thing is by no means justification to do it as well. That's really a strange position and you should reconsider what you're saying there, mate.

I'm not sure what FUD is supposed to be, but I am quite surprised that a request to not copy the bad practise you find so much around the internet is been seen as unreasonable. Sad to see that you obviously do not accept critique. In my view that only devalues your work. _________________ Cheers

You simply don't understand basic fact that operators and vendors put these photos on their websites for press to use them.
If you don't understand that, then you are childish and there is no basis for any discussion and please stop polluting this forum with off topic discussion. |

|
|
I have been waiting to see official pictures of this for over a year (since I first knew what the basic functionality and design was going to be). Back then it seemed this would be the perfect device - but having extensively used most of the various Smartphone/PDA/Palm devices since I can see this still lacking something.
If this had a standard 'phone' type keypad and small screen on one side of the flip screen - providing full phone functionality alone..combined with the PDA touchscreen on the other (a bit like the Nokia communicators) then it would cover all bases. As it is I think dialling out/using phone as normal may still fall short of even the most basic (decent) mobiles - I hope I am wrong.
This is where the HTC Magician falls down as dialling is not great.
Having said that - looks like the best so far (as long as you don't need a PDA sized screen!) I am looking forward to seeing/playing with an early version as soon as I can convince someone to let me
If they manage to get decent battery life with all the kit enabled then it will be a very powerful device - but I can't see how they could manage the power (or fit a decent battery) into such a small form factor! |
