Well, Nokia have started to licensee the Exchange Server ActiveSync protocol, so that kind of removes the only reason to for Nokia to use the MS Smartphone OS....

I do not think this is a droping of the PalmOS. The changes happen in PalmOS itself. You can read at http://www.palmsource.com/announcement/linuxletter.html that "we're going to implement it as a software layer that runs on top of Linux" and as software layer I see it possible to implement it as another layer on other OSes including WinCE so old PalmOS application could be easily ported into other platforms.
