Make no mistake: it's an early Beta version yet, but it is sign of things to come:
... what means: full support for Audible for Microsoft Smarpthone is coming! In other words: vast library of (copyrighted and ...

| A nice feature for those that use audible but hardly reason enough to say 'Don't buy Symbian Phones'. |

| ...and hardly a major breakthrough for Windows Smartphones! This isn't exactly the silver bullet that's going to make the market at large make the switch from Symbian to Windows, is it? |

Audible? What's that?
Sorry I have used all three major mobile OS platform and don't see how and unpopular application like Audible can sway people away from rival platforms. |

Has anyone actually tried this?
When I followed the above links and download the Audible smartphone software, it launches the AudibleManager on the PC and that's it. Nothing else. No new devices to select from (in audiblemanager), nothing. It didn't attempt to install anything on the device (SMT5600 in my case).
So it doesn't work, or there is additional software needed (from Audiovox??). |

| You must first un-install your current Audible Manager. When you re-install with this file it will add Smartphone as a device. However, it does not include the player, and there are no cabs installed to the Audible Manager folder or Activesync folder. When it tries to connect to my phone, I get a message telling me that the CE device doesn't have Audible software installed. |

I found out you need to be in Audible's beta test program to get the Audible player software for your phone. I emailed betaprogram [at] audible.com (spam protected) and they were very helpful.
After copying and installing the .cab that they sent me directly, everything worked like a charm. I thought they did a pretty good job on the smartphone implementation of the player too.
Nice. |
