These 2 new smartphones are very similar to T-Mobile SDA II and T-Mobile SDA II music however there are some differences:

PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE POSTING STORIES
From the Series 60 website: "Scalable UI framework with SVG, supporting high display resolutions: 176 x 208, 208 x 208, 240 x 320 QVGA, 352 x 416"
This is part of feature pack 3, due out in the summer. |

Very good info Stinger! thank you.
however I am not talking about support in software but about support in harware . I am talking about commercial availability of hardware. Here I think Windows Mobile smartphones with high resolutions will be first... |

Nokia's communicators, 640x200 for years.
Hardware support is useless without software support, there are already 262k colour screens that are pointless since Windows Smartphone only supports 65k.
What do you have against Symbian? they have a lot more experience in this market than Microsoft do. Some decisions are made based on battery life, form factor and availability of screens. |

You THINK Windows Mobile will be first? Your article presents it as FACT. What are you basing this on? Have you seen the product schedules for all of the manufacturers? Or are your biased opinion of Nokia again?
Do you also think that Nokia will release software without any hardware that supports it? |

I know that devices Windows Mobile smartphones with high resolution are already announced, however Symbian Series 60 devices with high resolution are not announced yet. Do you understand that or not?
Yes, software always comes first and for example Symbian UIQ released for example already software for touchscreen-less phones but there is no hardware for it yet. |

Just because something has been announced doesn't mean it'll be the first out. Just look at how long ago the MPx was announced - it still isn't out in the US and Europe.
Take the Nokia 6680 for example. It only got announced at Cannes and it's already on Orange's website and has already gained FCC approval. Maybe Nokia have decided to add a little mystery back into their range, by announcing products late?
Who knows, but you certainly can't state as a matter of fact that the SDA II will be the first smartphone (non-PDA phone) with a QVGA screen. It might be, it might not. |

You are absolutely right, however T-Mobile not only announced that SDA II phones with QVGA (high-resolution) are coming but it also announced when: June 2005. |

What's all the fuss with QVGA? Does these 'hi-res' screens handle 262k colors like non-smartphone Samsung phones? You may have more pixels but if the color range is limited to 65k, then I would still prefer Samsung screens because pictures wouldn't look bland when rendered in 262k colors (even if the screen is only 176 x 200). But if you have QVGA with 262k colors, then that's a winner.
*I'm not comparing phone specs (since I'm comparing it to non-smart phones)... I'm just talking about screen quality. |

you can see much more details then - for example when browsing websites
or you can read ebooks with much higher quality of fonts. |

But you won't find me browsing websites, reading ebooks, working on spread sheets and documents on a smartphone. The screen is just too small for my tastes. I'd rather do these in my Pocket PC. So viewing pictures and graphic is my focus when taking about screens that small.
I would agree that images would be more detailed and more text and data can be presented but a screen with a wider color range will make pictures more vivid. Is there any upcoming Smartphone or Pocket PC with a 262k color display? Or is the current Windows Mobile OS limited to just 65k colors. |
