We have received information from developers of Windows Mobile software, that Motricity (formerly known as "PowerByHand") will be ripping off more money from poor developers. Previously Handango decided to take aw...

While I don't know the costs associated with running their sites I can say that taking 40-50% of the revenue generated seems high to me. But here is the rub. I have no problem buying software from the developers directly but I don't see too many offering this software directly to the consumer. I would like to see some type of co-op site for developers to sell their apps. Owned by developers, run by them and ultimately paid for by them. It could be done.

This is absurd. At the very most Motricity and Handango should be charging 6-10% similar to an eBay/Paypal fee structure. It is important to mention that the 40%-50% does not include the additional fees that must be paid by developers for credit card processing and such that are not included which can push things up to 45%-75% depending on the price of the program. Developers work hard, it shouldn’t be taken away by sales people. This is truly what is wrong with the world today and what people don’t understand. We can very easily automate sales people despite what people might think. I say we build a co-op or at least have someone build a commercial site and charge a maximum of say 15% including the additional fees. Leveraging the paypal API I think this is possible by June 1st.

Fees are normal in any business but usually a reseller offers services to their customers (developers in this case). I know when it comes time to get help from Handango its a lost cause. All you can do is email, email, email and hope that someone returns an answer and actually helps. With the consolidation of the software resellers for PDA software the developers need to come together to get a site so they can actually make some money.

Also I konw that Handango claims they advertise for the developers, but pop ups and banner ads are what I ignore. I read about new apps when they hit sites like, well this one and others. Ads from Handango don't do much.
