Although Windows Mobile PDAs and phones are much less susceptible to virus programs than Symbian phones, however here comes another anti-virus program for Windows Mobile: TMMS 2.0! If you have Windows Mobile based P...

Now what makes you say that symbian is more virus-prone than Windows Mobile? Just because Symbian experienced the first outbreak virus for mobile phones does not make it less secure.

There are many virus programs for Symbian and none for Windows Mobile. That's it what makes me say that.

It is like on Dektop PCs:

If a OS is wide-spread, then there will be a lot of viruses like for Windows XP. As linux is growing there are more and more viruses also for linux!^

It's all about size...

Who want's to create a virus for a device not really well-known? They want to get maximum recognition for their virus!

So as Symbian is still the the most used phone OS, there will be a lot viruses for it...

Windows XP is a platform riddled with spyware, malware and viruses. It has by far the most problems of any operating system ever created. Yet Windows Smartphone has yet to see a single virus.

Now is this because Windows Smartphone is more secure than Windows XP? No, it's because Windows Smartphone is an incredibly niche operating system used in less than a million phones per year.

Is Windows Smartphone more secure than Symbian? Well, probably not. There hasn't been a single "true" virus for Symbian yet. All of the malware currently out in the wild relies on social engineering and user interaction to infect the phone. There are currently none that exploit security holes in the OS rather than security holes in the user.

Mobile security is certainly going to become a hot topic though.

Yeah, another twist on the truth (surprise surprise)

MS Smartphone is not "less susceptible" than Symbian to viruses, and I suspect that when the viruses finally start appearing we'll have plenty to choose from.

What this advert (sorry, "news story") should have been about is the way that AV companies are playing on people's fears to market a product that at the moment serves no useful purpose.

and how do you know it? Fact is that symbian platforms have much more viruses than Windows Mobile platforms. You have no facts yet you still feel compelled to deny me. This is not OK.

Not a fact. Of the problems so far with Symbian have been due to malware, not viruses.

If you are going to say its less secure because it has more viruses for it...

I want to hear you say that symbian is better because it is more popular.

Its the same arguement turned on its head.
