HTC Magician (branded as "T-Mobile MDA Compact", i-mate JAM, etc) was big success. Now HTC brings HTC Wizard that is equally small (almost) but also offers full Qwerty keyboard:

I have corrected the link now! Thanks.
Processor speed: it is from Texas Instruments (TI) not Intel like former models from HTC, so it's difficult to tell the speed of this processor. However since Skype needs at least 400 MHz I wouldn't recommend to buy this phone if it has slower processor than 400 MHz... |

| Good article. It looks like HTC is missing out on integrating GPS into their devices though - bad move. That alone would likely prevent me from purchasing it. Hell, even ordinary smartphones are about to be released with built-in GPS... |

It's a blazing 200Mhz . This is no way close to enough for Skype and higher end applications. The megaflops on the proc are high for 200Mhz but it's core frequency is still 200Mhz so running intensive applications doesn't make any sense. |

| Hmmm. I don't think I like the full keyboard. I would prefer a numeric keyboard with T9 that slides out on the short end. |

Hmm. Check out the posts from Dale on this page (it's from the thread on HoFo were the rumour first was seen.)
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=641623&page=8&pp=15
Dale (who started the thread) says:
"What I am saying is that there are 2 phones from HTC with similar weight size/ dimensions. However the Wizard looks more like the current jam. Yes, no keyboard. Silver in colour."
Doesn't it seem like there's been a mix-up? The picture in the article could be the HTC Galaxy, not the HTC Wizard.
AAhh. Sometimes I just hate the internet and miss the good old days when you saw something you liked in the store and then you bought it, now we see something on the internet and then have to speculate and debate rumours for months and look at crappy pictures. And about 10 months later we can buy it. |

OK, but information from PocketPCItalia looks like more reliable one, particularly because it offers good photo and specs, so it could be that this initial post at HowardForums confused Wizard with Galaxy and guys from Italy have it right... well, we will see in future... but anyway HTC should release next mini Pocket PC phone soon, so anyway we will see new infos, at the earlierst in September when i-mate will be annnouncing new models....
regarding lack of HTC: it's true, and even i-mate boss admitted that HTC is not releasing any phones with built-in GPS. Pity...
Regarding processor speed: 200 MHz in Pocket PC is too little... |

| Now that's cute. But are we sure about the processor speed? |

Then I won't be buying any of their products. Unless, of course, they make one for another company to brand that has GPS... |

Hi guys,
Is really an incredible feat that the HTC folks are doing with their PPC-phones. Can u imagine now with EDGE technolgy(3G related) build in. Although the pocketpcitalia.com did not report to have 2 cameras build on board of the HTC-Wizards, there may have a last minute changes before the production goes FULL FLEDGE!!! videophony??? hee hee hee....
GPS buildin......goodness!!! The cost of this baby, is pretty high and still need a GPS buildin....*glurps* (u're choking my wallet, dude)
Take it easy, alright. To get so much things in a MINI is really not an easy things. Let the developer have some time to explore their wonders. And also with 2.8" LCD screen, u guys, seriously want that GPS on it?
Sliding QWERTY keyboard with a 2.1mpixels/flash camera....hee hee hee....obviously targeting the trendy market!!! Mua haa haa haa...
Hail to HTC(taiwan)!!! Thumbs up!
PS: even the SD slot is going MINI. |

Hi all,
Read about TI OMAP from it's website.
TI OMAP 850
OMAP850 Features:
Low-Power, High-Performance CMOS Technology
Low-voltage 130 nm technology
1.1 - 1.5V cores, 1.8 - 2.75V IO
Extremely low power consumption: less than 10 µA in standby mode
Split power supplies for application processing, digital baseband and real-time clock enable precise control over power consumption
Optimized clocking and power management: Only two clocks required at 13 MHz and 32 kHz
ARM926TEJ Core Subsystem
ARM926EJ-S V5 architecture up to 200 MHz (maximum frequency)
16 kB I-cache; 8 kB D-cache
Java acceleration in hardware
Multimedia instruction set architecture (ISA) extension
EDGE Digital Baseband Subsystem
384 K-bytes internal SRAM
E-OTD and TTY support
Quad vocoder with EFR, FR, HR, AMR
GSM ultra-low power device (ULPD)
SIM interface
So will the TI OMAP be just 200mhz of speed??? _________________

Sounds crazy. Here are my guesses:
1) There must be something wrong with the info we got so far. The OMAP850 seems more like a chipset for a smaller smartphone, not a "bigger" unit like the Magician.
2) Again some wrong with info so far. It seems like it's a part of a larger chipset link and the OMAP850 might just be in there for the phone-stuff? I mean, the 416MHz Intel XScale® PXA272 Processor that’s in the Magician today has to be combined with a gsm-chipset to make it a phone. The PXA272 itself is found in other regular PocketPCs without GSM/GPRS.
3) Sometimes processor-speed isn't everything. The OMAP850 could be blazing fast (or the same speed) compared to the PXA272, but with much less power consumption.
Anyhow, I doubt that HTC will put out a successor to the Magician that's half the speed as it's predecessor. I force myself to at least believe in that. |
