Let's see.
Few articles ago you mentioned Windows Mobile 5.0 and bashed Microsoft for impairing its ActiveSync functionality.
Since the full extent of ActiveSync limitations is, as of yet, unknown...
How about we take the tried and true system with full ActiveSync functionality, as the advantage of C550?
Just my 2 cents worth.

Well, C550 has no Wi-Fi so this "lack of ActiveSync over Wi-Fi" limitation does not apply here. Anyway: thanks for suggestion. |

I have to agree that the C550 isn't worth buying.
When the C500 was released nearly a year ago now, it was a sensation. It was truly the first Windows Smartphone that could be taken seriously.
But are four new buttons, an improved screen and a better camera really worth a year's wait? I don't think so.
Where's the 3G support? Where's the hot-swappable memory card slot? Where's the WiFi support? Where's Windows Mobile 5.0? Even the 1.3MP is going to look out of date by the time that it's released.
This is too little, too late. |

| I for one am looking forward to this. My contract runs out this month, and I want to switch to Orange anyway (less costly GPRS)... For me, the 320x240 screen, proper joystick and (presumed) lack of dust under the screen will be a deal maker... I reckon it will be over a year anyway before we see a similar (small form factor, with keypad) phone with 3g and wireless and WM5... |

A big disappointment.
I was hoping on this decent Windows smartphone. _________________ "Scientia Est Potestas." |

Not really Microsoft's fault though?
It's the hardware makers who are to blame. The improvements from the older smartphones to the C500 were huge, slim phone, good battery life. Where can you go from there?
Microsoft is to blame for no increasing the screen resolution of the smartphone platform, but then they seem to like fixed resolutions for PocketPC and Smartphone.
Anyway, is the old OS in these phones a real problem? I would say yes if applications are likely to be made Windows Mobile 5 only. But the OS in these phones is largely that, just system software. The actual "smart" part of a smartphone is that you can install many different applications and create your own if you can program. It's not like a non-smartphone where all you can do is install Java applets. |
