Opera Mini is available now only for customers of one mobile phone operator in Norway, it is not available commercially yet for anybody else. Yet we managed to get Opera Mini and test it thoroughly!

Is it a special version of the (still to be expected) Opera for Pocket PC - or a special version of that.

You report that is can connect to a certain server which customizes webpages specially for use on small screens if I get it correct.

Well I have a licensed version of Opera for Smartphones on my Qtek8080 and it generally performs well and really is a charm, when you surf to pages containing frames, which the Pocket IE cannot display. Admittedly there a certain frame-containing pages, which are not displayed so well (and I even came across some, where you get locked onto one special frame), but at least you CAN display such pages, which is not possible with IE. Sometimes also the IE has a better rendering. In other cases I found that Opera browsers thru certain pages in turbo speed and it takes the IE ages to go thru. (One example, where that is so, is a hardware price checker www.geizhals.at It's in German language only, anyway... When you select a product and go thru a long list of offers IE is very slow in displaying them, whereas Opera is almost too fast Smile

I amusing both Opera and built-in IE on my Smartphone, though Opera licensing policy is very rigorous (the license is expensive and not personalized but limited to the DEVICE. So if I get myself a new Smartphone - which will be the Qtek 83x0 soon - I probably will have to register and pay again. I think this is quite unfair, as they could have invented an other model as well. However surfing in the internet when not at home is (as I do not like mobile gaming at all) the third-frequent action I use my Smartphone for (besides making phone calls and checking mails).

But not getting away from the original topic:

1. Will this Opera Mini be the final (and only) version for the Pocket PC platform, or will there be a "normal" Opera for Pocket PC (which I hope)
2. If so: When at all will it be released ? I am impatiently waiting for it !!!

Sorry the first sentence of my posting doesn't make sense the way I posted it, sorry for that.

Should read:
Is it a special version of the (still to be expected) Opera for Pocket PC - or a *separate* version of that ?
