There is no Skype for Symbian and only few Symbian phones have built-in Wi-Fi and no Symbian phones can attach Wi-Fi... while many Pocket PC phones have built-in Wi-Fi and all (!) Pocket PC phones can attach Wi-Fi t...

yes, but it will not be usable for voice phone calls - just for textual chatting (instant messaging). Skype voice phone calls will not work with it - it has been already tested. |

Damn, that's a major thumbs-down for the coming Qtek 9100.
Can we hope since tests so far might have been made with pre-release firmwares and Skype v1.1 which might have been untrimmed for WM5? _________________ "Scientia Est Potestas." |

I wouldn't count on it - 195MHz really is too slow.. |

You DO understand that the above affirmation will probably steer me away from buying the 9100.
However, since sometimes 200MHz processors (Samsung's?) perform better in some benchmarks than 312MHz XScale, I still have some hope that absolute Megaherzs is only an index but no final verdict.
September and the release date of HTC Wizard is near... We will see it hands-on. But thanks for the warning.
PS. Too bad HTC Universal is too costly and too big for my taste. _________________ "Scientia Est Potestas." |

Built very 'cheap'?!
Well, this needs explanations. Manufacturing-wise or feature-wise? Since HTC builds both models I don't expect a very different choice of materials and the usual [high quality] build which the Taiwanese manufacturer has accustomed us.
Feature-wise, I understand that the Universal has all but the kitchen sink, but hey... I don't want a BRICK for phone and definitely don't want to spend €900+ for a darn PDA, even if it walks the kids to school... _________________ "Scientia Est Potestas." |

The material for the Keyboard of the Wizard is plastic and after a few days there are several scratchers in it! And the whole sliding mechanism is very instable _________________ www.ruttensoft.com - Smartphone development

Well that sure was an ignorant comment. You might put a little time researching the industry you're allegedly covering to learn the 195 Mhz OMAP processor outperforms a 400MHz Xscale at significantly reduced power consumption. Only a novice compares processor performance solely based on CPU clock cycles. Here - to begin you reducation I'll repost the link you obviously already ignored in my other post: http://www.brighthand.com/article/Analyst_Day |

One of the most interesting demonstrations of the day came from Texas Instruments, makers of the OMAP processor used in the Tungsten T. Gilles Delfassy, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Texas Instrument's Wireless Terminals Business Unit, ran some fairly intense graphics tests against both TI's processor at 144 MHz and processors from "another big chip maker" running at 206 MHz and 400 MHz. Let me tell you, the OMAP processor cleaned Intel's clock, finishing the test in less than one-third the time. Mr. Delfassy claimed that not does TI's processor operate more efficiently (it uses as little as one-sixth the megahertz to produce the same numbers of MIPS) but it consumes significantly less power -- more than 90% less power than a 400 MHz Xscale processor in standby mode.
Says all. Thanks kupe. _________________ "Scientia Est Potestas." |

Thanks kif!
What about echo cancellation on?
Anyway, this is great news and can only become better once newer versions come out and are trimmed for WM5 and Qtek 9100. _________________ "Scientia Est Potestas." |

If the Qtek 9100 can't run Skype, then all the other claims of slower smartphones (i.e. XV6600/ppc-6600, i730, et al) running Skype must just be fan-boy advertising by this site (since it obviously already receives advertising funding from Skype). Most likely, though, it's just poor research.
