T-Mobile MDA Pro is on sale in Germany now, but it has SIM lock that cannot be unlocked! I.e. even if customer wants to buy, for additional money, the SIM unlocking, it is not available yet!

| I have been looking around for this phone because I am in america, and isnt the JasJar the exact same phone as the HTC universal, only it is unlocked and has english rom. It should work with sim card for Tmobile in Usa if I am correct. |

T-Mobile in USA uses EDGE and this phone has UMTS so it is unlikely that T-Mobile USA will introduce HTC Universal or T-Mobile MDA Pro in USA.
However of course you can buy i-mate JasJar and use it, but you will have no EDGE, only GPRS and only one band is usable in USA (there are 2 GSM bands in use in USA).
So if you can't wait get i-mate JasJar but I reckon that USA-adapted version of HTC Universal will be available later too... |

That is correct, I fly between the US and ME, so I am hoping to use the JASJAR in the US when I return, the only issue I can see is that roaming outside of US T-Mobile will not work. So your phone will only work in T-Mobile zones, am I correct? |

No, you are not correct. If you will buy T-Mobile MDA Pro then you will be able to use it only with SIM from T-Mobile Germany - in any network in any country. But if you will try to put there SIM cad from T-Mobile USA, it will not work because it has SIM lock.
For 100 Euro T-Mobile will be offering removal of this SIM lock but not yet - they don't have yet tools in place. |

I was refering to the JasJar not the MDA. |

In that case you are right: you could use it in USA but you would have problem to use roaming with operators that use "the other band". In other words: those operators that use 1900 Mhz band would be usable, but you couldn't connect to operators in USA who use 850 Mhz band. |

So , I guess the question begs, how complete is T-Mobile's coverage in the US, versus how many times you have to roam off network versus the exorbidant price that I-Mate is asking for the JASJAR.
I have been told 3 days here in Dubai for release of the JASJAR and a price tag of $1100, I have to keep slapping myyself in the face while saying nooooo! |

1110 USD = 880 Euro
T-Mobile MDA Pro costs 740 Euro + 100 Euro for SIM unlock = 840 Euro ... so the price is not that much different from T-Mobile MDA Pro.
Regarding question "is it worth it?". My answer: if your productivity will increase thanks to this phone (it has 4 times more pixels than regular Pocket PC phones), then buy it! Productivity is the most important thing. |

Hmm Productivity:
I wanted to be able to roam on the internet via hotspots without having to carry my laptop around with me. I can do that with a JASJAR
I wanted to use it as an MP3 player (Nomad 3 bit the dust) with Bluetooth headphones: I can kind of do that, with head phones but not bluetooth headphones. unless I buy logitech bluetooth headphones with the jack adaptor - sucks.
I need a new phone.
I want to store my personnel data on a machine off the corporate network but I want it to be available all the time rather than when I go home to my personnel laptop.
And the other reason, my wife says buy it or shut up about it |

sincerely speaking if you will not be using UMTS then there is no big point in buying HTC Universal. Then just go for HTC Wizard! |

I know I can use 3G\UMTS with Etisilat in Dubai, but does T-Mobile in the US offer 3G\UMTS? if not may be you are right.
I also wanted to use Skype, I don't think that works on a Wizard? |

UMTS in USA is rarity. For example: whole east coast of USA has no UMTS whatsoever. In other words: forget about using UMTS in USA. In USA only GPRS, EDGE and CDMA-EVDO are usable.
Shortly speaking: no. |

More BS....you do have a way of always getting it wrong...both devices will support GPRS....they are from a radio perspective identical...only apps and locking are different !
If you are going to give advice then do it correctly please... |

Where did I say that these 2 devices are not identical from radio perspective? I didn't. |
