|

It looks like Orange carrier is the first in UK to launch HTC Universal! Although O2 was first with announcements (about O2 Xda Exec - their incarnation of HTC Universal) it looks like Orange is first to the market....

ive been tracking this phone for a while now, and it just screams out to me!!! icant wait for it, but one thing bothers me?! im on orange contract, and looking over all the stuff that orange has posted and comparing it to other carriers, i seemed to notice that Orange isnt offering WiFi!!!!!! WOTS GOING ON?! thats a big decider for me, i may have to change to O2, and seeing as the prices that i will have to pay for the device it seems a bit steep, if they dont offer all of the services that the device can on other carriers!!
anyone no otherwise |

Orange is not mentioning WiFi, but it doesn't mean that it is not offering it. In other words: for Orange it is important that users use 3G and spend a lot of money on it (UK is underdeveloped in mobile technology and there is no flat rate so users must pay dearly for mobile Internet)! That's why they don't mention Wi-Fi, particularly because Orange has no major Wi-Fi networks like T-Mobile.
I am 100% sure that Orange SPV M5000 has Wi-Fi on board, however if you are frequent user of T-Mobile hotspots I would recommend T-Mobile MDA Pro that is coming to T-Mobile UK soon... |

I saw first devices in the country (from O2 and Orange) and my god could the release date be any slower.
We have a 800+ sales force but can we hell as like get a propper release date for a preorder. Im almost tempted to give up and buy a tmobile or imate one off the web just for test purposes |

no, resist the temptation and get it from operator, i.e. tmobile is OK too if you have their subscription already.
anyway: no operators in UK offer flat rate internet so they all make me angry... (although I personally use 3G at Vodafone UK) |

Let's not get too excited though. It's only a launch. It could still be a week or more before it ships to shops.
The Register has said that an Orange Spokesperson confirms that there will be WiFi built in to the M5000.

First to market my arse - this phone is available from O2 and T-Mobile, but Orange just tell you it's 'coming soon'
that's the danger of taking press releases at face value, I suppose. You'd have thought a site that specialises in Microsoft kit would have learnt to be a bit more cynical! |
