Nice.
But seems the only real difference from the HTC Wizard is the CPU, the 18bit colour screen, the 2MP camera and the FM radio, right?
Not enough... and its looks are too iPodish.
Why I say not enough? Because these are evolutions not revolutions. There is no clear benchmark atm that gives a clear advantage of the 416MHz Bulverde in front of the 195MHz OMAP for PPC phones, plus there is the battery endurance factor. The 18bit (256K) colours will hit performance without adding something spectacular. The 2MP camera is cool, but if you're serious about photography you will sport a "real" digital camera anyway. The integrated FM tuner might be interesting though... _________________ "Scientia Est Potestas." |

This is why Windows phones aren't on the cutting edge. All the features mentioned are present in other phones.
Look at the Sony Ericsson W800i, a non smartphone. It has a 2MP camera with autofocus (and a good lens). It has an FM radio with RDS. It has a 262k colour screen and has been on the market for months.
We're talking average phones here, not premium smartphones.
The makers of Windows phones need to get with it and Microsoft needs to look at how slick the interface is on Sony Ericsson phones (and the PSP too for example). Lose the clunkiness and make things smooth to use. |

As much as I like SD cards like the rest of you, I hope I don't hear another "grrr.. why mini-SD?" argument, considering that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are integrated internally like the K-JAM and that there's no need for the expansion slot EXCEPT for memory at this point.
Kudos for finally throwing in an mistakenly forsaken feature such as FM Radio, something that simple Nokia and Motorola(?) phones have had since the introduction of a stereo jack on a cell phone. _________________ Bubble Buster Advanced

| Hmmm no soft buttons as far as I can tell - you'll have to use your fingernail to open the menu... unless they're somewhere else? |

The HTC Athene is A LOT more advanced than your Sony Ericsson W800i. Sure it have FM radio, 2MP camera and 262.000 colors. But does it make it an advanced phone? No.
The HTC Athene have 65.000 colors. But the screen is brilliant. It's bigger and better than the one on the W800i. So it will look a lot better, even with less colors showing.
It also got more inbuilt memory and a real cpu to run real applications. No java toys.
And when you think of it as a business phone, as it really is. It got inbuilt Wi-Fi and excellent synconization to Outlook or wierless to an Exchange 2003 server. A normal phone can't do this.
Comparing a Pocket PC Phone with a W800i is like comparing a Mercedes with a Lada. It's two different worlds. _________________ Alexander Dreyer Johnsen

But Mini-SD cards are (and are always likely to be) smaller in capacity and higher in price. I don't think there's a 2Gb mini-SD card for instance. They also tend to be harder to swap than SD cards because of the slot design. And I can't for the life of me see why they need to save the space in a device like this, when surely they are saving no more than half a cubic centimetre at most.
Therefore...
grrr.. why mini-SD?
Or, if you want a more constructive comment, I can see a few upsides to using SD instead of mini-SD, even ignoring SDIO devices for the moment. What, apart from the *tiny* size difference, is the upside to using mini-SD? |
