LIVE EVENT COVERAGE: Mobius 2008! Visit twitter.com/msmobiles ! Latest Mobile Windows News: HTC P3400i phone goes on sale in Asia May 16, 2008; [with touch-screen] HTC introduces yet another low-end affordable Windows Mobile phone with touch-screen... because obviously not everybody needs high-end features. GIGABYTE starts YouTube video competition May 16, 2008; [with touch-screen] Not only HTC is using YouTube but also GIGABYTE Communications company! 10 Windows Mobile phones from GIGABYTE are up for grabs in a YouTube video competition that lasts between May 20th and June 20th... You may even win a GSmart t600 phone (see also our GSmart t600 review), that has unique feature not available in any other Windows Mobile phone: built-in DVB-T TV receiver, that works also in UK with FreeView TV and DAB radio (we have tested it!)... For developers: free .NET Compact Framework Code Profiler released May 15, 2008; [General] It's apparently the first and only .NET CF Code profiler, for performance tuning Managed Windows Mobile and Windows CE applications... This program is free, so you can't go wrong with it. The only really profitable area of mobile software development is .NET-based enterprise software development, and there with help of this profiler one can write much faster software: MWg Atom V video review published May 15, 2008; [with touch-screen] O2 Asia rebranded itself to MWg and associated itself with Expansys international online store. Now MWg sells phones also in Europe and USA and MWg Atom V is one of them - while not a revolutionary product it has 3G, GPS, WiFi and looks like a solid construction... Prepaid kit with white HTC Touch sold out at Orange UK! May 14, 2008; [with touch-screen] When at various HTC events we were asking a question about availability of HTC Touch phones in pink color, most journalists were laughing, but in reality it is very important to offer phones in various colors simply to attract more customers. While HTC has not managed yet to deliver their phones in pink color, it offers some of their phones in white, what is a pleasant alternation... Orange UK has one of the worst offerings in mobile data in the market, but it offers some very good talk tariffs (sometimes beating by 5p per-minute competition!), so it is a popular operator in UK... but unfortunately white HTC Touch on "pay as you go" is sold out: Enterprise mobility: MobiForms 4.05 released May 14, 2008; [with touch-screen] MySQL is a very popular database that powers most PHP-based web applications, and new version of MobiForms for Windows Mobile enables wireless access to MySQL! Elecont software released Elecont Pocket PC and Smartphone manager May 12, 2008; [General] Yet another task manager with some additional features... Microsoft helps RIM BlackBerry - competitor of Windows Mobile May 12, 2008; [General] Here it comes: yet another proof that Windows Mobile does not have high priority for Microsoft. Step by step, one by one, features that were unique differentiator for Windows Mobile are being given away by Microsoft to other mobile platforms: wireless Exchange synchronization, Windows Media DRM and playback, Silverlight, etc. Now Microsoft is working on Office Mobile for Apple iPhone and already today Microsoft announced availability of Live Messenger and other Live services for RIM BlackBerry devices: Microsoft proves that Zune is more important to them than Windows Mobile: XNA May 12, 2008; [General] It is sad but true: at first when XNA (.NET-based game development kit) was announced then Windows Mobile, apart from Xbox and PC was mentioned on the list of supported platforms, later Windows Mobile support was dropped and now Zune support was released in XNA Game Studio 3.0. What does it mean? It is another proof that Windows Mobile division is considered less important than Zune by Microsoft corporation! Zune has also podcasting support while Windows Mobile still doesn't have it. Zune also has access to plenty of unique content, including music and TV shows, but Windows Mobile still doesn't have this access. It is impossible to believe in claims of Microsoft that Windows Mobile is also for entertainment and fun, if facts deny it! Interestingly game development for Zune with XNA works also with free version of Visual Studio (Express Edition): Hexxagon Labs game released by HeroCraft May 12, 2008; [General] This games tries to be both educational and entertaining. On top of that it promises you to increase your intelligence! Radio365-Mobile for Windows Mobile released - Live365 player May 12, 2008; [General] Live365 is a service used by people to stream their favorite audio content over Internet. Before Howard Stern became available through official streaming by Sirius, many people used Live365 to get Howard Stern live... but now you can stream any audio from your home to the Internet with this service... and big number of audio channels is already available at Live365. Good news: at least a Windows Mobile player for Live 365 has been released: Timetranslator for Windows Mobile released May 12, 2008; [General] Sometimes when you call people in other time zones, you can make mistake by calling at improper time. With this utility you can avoid it... MOTO Q 9c Windows Mobile smartphone goes on sale May 9, 2008 at Verizon Wireless May 11, 2008; [without touch-screen] MOTO Q 9c is a solid Windows Mobile smartphone without touch-screen but with a very good QWERTY keyboard... so it's good to see that now also customers of Verizon Wireless - the network with the biggest coverage in USA - will be able to enjoy it. Weekly audio: Windows Mobile related podcasts that have been published last week May 11, 2008; [General] Go out and play podcasts (audio) about Windows Mobile phones! In podcasts one can find also unique information not to be found on any web site in textual form, so they are worth listening! On top of that if you are commuting to work, walking the dog or doing any other outdoors activity, then listening to a podcast may be an interesting enrichment of your life. Here we present very fresh (published in latest few days) podcasts (i.e. MP3 audio files) about Windows Mobile phones: Mobius 2008 will take place next week May 11, 2008; [General] ... and our reporter will be there on location and sending updates live through Twitter! At this event Microsoft will be showing, under NDA, the Windows Mobile 7. Also HTC Touch Diamond will be demonstrated. Jason Dunn from Pocket PC Thoughts writes: I'm heading to a Mobius event in Seattle next week, and I'll be getting some hands-on time with the HTC Diamond. What is Mobius? Previous page   |
