Latest Mobile Windows News: Professional cycling: team Columbia-High Road now has a new co-sponsor in HTC Corporation July 04, 2009; [General] HTC once upon a time was a humble manufacturer producing phones for carriers and other brands - and nobody known what HTC even is, but nowadays HTC is working hard to promote its own brand. HTC still is the biggest maker of Windows Mobile phones so this story is relevant here... Elecont Launcher for Windows Mobile adds vibrations July 04, 2009; [with touch-screen] Some Windows Mobile phones already have vibration-based feedback for example in virtual keyboards, but here is a program that introduces vibrations to its functionality: Video review of Samsung Omnia 2 (II) published July 03, 2009; [with touch-screen] Since HTC is not placing 3.5 mm stereo miniplug in their latest Windows Mobile phones, it looks like Samsung Omnia II is topping the wish list of Windows Mobile fans nowadays. On top of that it has AMOLED display, high-performance graphics that allows for fast gaming and fluid video playback and a very solid construction. Simply: Samsung Omnia II is the best Windows Mobile phone - as of now. Obviously Windows Mobile phones doesn't have capacitive displays so drawing might be a bit cumbersome but the game works and you can use stylus after all... Lies, damned lies and Toshiba TG01 in UK July 02, 2009; [General] Apparently we have lied that Toshiba TG01 is coming to O2 UK! The operator to which it is coming... True Caller app for Windows Mobile released July 02, 2009; [with touch-screen] You can see who calls you! In case of Windows Mobile phones, one can make programs that are more tightly integrated with the operating system - so program can subscribe for example to incoming calls and handle them properly. In this case: the program is searching the Internet and even if given phone number is not in your local phone book, you can get information about the caller! Skyfire client for Windows Mobile updated July 02, 2009; [General] Skyfire gets more streamlined and several issues are being fixed. Unfortunately the Hulu issue - Hulu blocks Skyfire now also for users connecting from USA - has not been resolved, but probably it is beyond control of Skyfire makers... Microsoft hardware phone coming after all: Pink phone ad campaign July 01, 2009; [with touch-screen] Firstly we thought that project "Pink" of Roz Ho from Microsoft is about services, then that it is about Zune HD and we have heard from several Microsoft managers that Microsoft has no intention to make hardware phone... but it looks like these assurances were simply not true: Microsoft phone is coming after all because some ad agency scored a deal to make ad campaign for that Pink thing and "mobile phone" is clearly mentioned: WikiPock for Windows Mobile 6.5 released July 01, 2009; [with touch-screen] Yes, the vendor mentions "6.5" explicitly, although Windows Mobile 6.5 is coming only in September 2009 and is not available yet (update: it means only that the developer had to make a few fixes for Windows Mobile 6.5 and used the emulator but it works also for older versions of Windows Mobile)... and writes: Windows Mobile powered Toshiba TG01 coming also to O2 UK July 01, 2009; [with touch-screen] Both O2 Germany and O2 UK are owned by Spanish company Telefonica, so no wonder that after Toshiba TG01 went on sale in Germany last month, it will be available also at British O2 - O2!
When? Capacitive displays? You dont need no stinking capacitive displays! ... says Microsoft June 30, 2009; [General] In an article for developers about finger gestures in Windows Mobile 6.5, an employee of Microsoft more or less says that resisitive displays are better because they are cheaper and make handwriting recognition easier, but also mentions that some manufacturers consider making phones powered by Windows Mobile 6.5 with capacitive displays: Social networking client Nimbuzz to be embedded in Toshiba TG01 by O2 June 30, 2009; [with touch-screen] Toshiba TG01 Windows Mobile phone with gigantic 4.1 display is on sale at O2 Germany for 150 Euro with contract and Nimbuzz scored inclusion of their software on this nice handset (a dream for each mobile software developer!): New version of Kinoma Play released June 30, 2009; [General] Arguably the best media player for Windows Mobile, gets updated! Apart from extensions to the built-in Twitter client, also new features have been added what makes this program much more than a player but rather a platform on top of Windows Mobile that has its own user interface and its own apps: Gold version of Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile released - no longer BETA June 30, 2009; [General] It is nice to see that Skype employee uses the term "Skype 3.0 for Windows Phones" and not "Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile", when he writes about this new release: Video chit-chat with podcaster from number one podcast about cellphones on iTunes June 29, 2009; [General] Podcasting was invented merely 5 years ago but it has already changed lives of many people: instead of listening to repetitive music or to boring radio, people can listen wherever, whenever - to an audio content that covers in big depth even narrowest topics.
