LIVE EVENT COVERAGE: Mobius 2008! Visit twitter.com/msmobiles ! Latest Mobile Windows News: High-resolution official photos of HTC Touch Diamond May 06, 2008; [with touch-screen] Why would you like to see some reduced in size images or images with somebody's logo on them, if you can see high-resolution and original photos of this new phone? Here is overview:
HTC beats Nokia: HTC releases as the first one a touch-screen phone with tilt sensor - HTC Touch Diamond ! May 06, 2008; [with touch-screen] Nokia plans to release a Symbian S60 touch phone with tilt sensor but there are some issues and this phone is being delayed, and it is HTC, not Nokia, that releases as the first such phone! ... and this phone will be available to all operators and also to all customers without operator branding. The name of this phone is "HTC Diamond" (but it will be sold through operators under different names too) and the most important new feature of this phone is tilt sensor, meaning that you can play games like this (this game will be included in the phone but developers will be able to develop their own games that take advantage of tilt sensor):
... where you can move balls by tilting the phone in various directions! Apart from that you can do many other useful functions like rejecting incoming phone call, rotating Internet browser, etc. with use of this function - it is not just a gimmick useful in games. It is a new revolutionary feature first seen in a phone powered by Windows Mobile (note: previously we postulated to Microsoft to include tilt sensor API in Windows Mobile)! Apart from revolutionary tilt sensor, HTC Touch Diamond brings something wholly new to HTC manufacturing: stylish design! And this design is meant not just in hardware but also in software. Work on HTC Touch Diamond started at HTC in November 2006 - exactly then when Horace Luke :
... has left Microsoft and joined HTC (in other words: when HTC poached him from Microsoft). Everything that we wrote about Horace Luke appeared to be spot-on! But first things first, so let's take a look at a box in which HTC Touch Diamond will be sold (note: it looks like pyramid! ... or a diamond): Out and about - going to HTC event in London today ! May 06, 2008; [with touch-screen] While we strive to provide broad coverage of events on both sides of the pond - USA and Europe - our focus is on depth and multimedia (both video and high-quality audio) rather than on live delivery. Nonetheless we will provide a live coverage of today's HTC event to a certain extent: Do you need protection? May 05, 2008; [with touch-screen] Much has been discussed in Windows Mobile forums about screen protectors. Most agree that they are important, but which is the best? That decision is become a little harder. Listen to Kirk Feller, and watch him demonstrate BodyGuardz, a seemingly indestructible shield for your screen or your entire device. Photos of HTC Diamond and specifications - leaked May 03, 2008; [with touch-screen] HTC Diamond will be officially unveiled on May 6th, 2008 but today first real photos of this phone leaked! HTC Diamond looks like, er, a diamond:
The specifications of the HTC Diamond according to the leak are: May 6th, 2008 - big day for Horace Luke from HTC ? May 03, 2008; [with touch-screen] The motto of the HTC event that takes place in London, UK, on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 is "Witness the next wave of HTC Innovation". So it looks like it will be big day for Chief Innovation Officer at HTC: Horace Luke! Who is Horace Luke? HTC CENSUS leaked on FCC May 02, 2008; [with touch-screen] The model name of this PDA is CENSUS (FCC ID is: NM8CENSUS) and it has huge 3000 mAh battery, so clearly it is a phone for U.S. census that is carried out every 10 years in USA (note Harris branding - Harris is a company specialized in providing solutions to governments):
Vodafone Germany confirms GSmart t600 - the phone with full mobile TV ( DVB-T ) May 02, 2008; [with touch-screen] While England was disqualified form Euro 2008 football championships by small mediterranean (neighbor of Italy) country of Croatia, Germany has 100% chances to go outside of their group and has big chances to become Europe champion in 2008! In other words: it is big boon for mobile operators in Germany to offer mobile TV... and with DVB-T no additional costs are incured so DVB-T phones will be hot topic in Germany in May and June... Quality of TV broadcast in t600, thanks to DVB-T and VGA display is stunningly good:
Mini review of GIGABYTE GSmart MW700 published May 01, 2008; [with touch-screen] Recently we have reviewed GIGABYTE GSmart t600 with DVB-T TV (FreeView) but this time yet newer phone from GIGABYTE is being reviewed: GSmart MW700, that doesn't have DVB-T but offers instead built-in GPS: GIGABYTE unveils SmartTouch - user interface extension for finger-based navigation April 30, 2008; [with touch-screen] Icon-based user interfaces were available long before iPhone was released, and GSmart SmartTouch looks very nice and although some might accuse it of imitating an iPhone user interface, in fact it is an original icon-based User Interface software. Apparently there was some leak on the Internet: But we discovered that the Chinese version has leaked out early, and has been changed to Multilanguage version that is free to download online. However, the illegal version is not working properly; some of the functions are dead due to our code protection. Here is the video demonstration of this user interface, that will be available soon in various GSmart phones from GIGABYTE Communications: HTC says that Windows Mobile is more important than Google Android (yet) April 29, 2008; [with touch-screen] It goes without saying that mobile operators (aka wireless carriers) need some phones that could compete with iPhone because only one operator per country got iPhone exclusivity... so it is big business opportunity for companies like HTC. Since Apple is not licensing iPhone's operating system, it is also big opportunity for Windows Mobile. Original HTC Touch was launched a month before the launch of iPhone and on May 6, roughly a month before the launch of iPhone 2.0 (with 3G and GPS), HTC will be launching next generation of HTC Touch phones: with VGA display, very thin, and with next generation of HTC TouchFLO extension for finger based navigation. According to HTC the Diamond phone powered by Windows Mobile, that will be announced on May 6, is the most important product for HTC this year, more important than Google Android -powered phones that HTC will release later this year: HTC Touch Find - yet another phone from HTC April 29, 2008; [with touch-screen] Update: the HTC Touch Find is just another name for the HTC Touch Cruise, available already - but since several people are confused about it, we will keep this story! Please note: HTC is offering many of their phones under different names although they are actually the same model - for example HTC P3000 doesn't have product page on HTC's website but one can purchase it in shops in Bangalore, India. HTC is making many models of phones nowadays, of which several are almost the same. Here comes HTC Touch Find - yet another member of HTC Touch family:
Specifications: Phone review : gSmart t600 from GIGABYTE - mobile HDTV in your pocket ! April 27, 2008; [with touch-screen] Imagine that you would be able to receive standard terrestrial digital TV (in DVB-T standard, in UK known as "FreeView") inside of your mobile phone. Wouldn't it be great? Unlike DVB-H that is especially designed for mobile devices, DVB-T is actually designed for regular TV sets, and unlike DVB-H, with DVB-T you can receive regular TV channels and not some cut-down mobile versions, and finally unlike DVB-H, the DVB-T has no monthly fees and thus is completely free! DVB-T is now a standard for terrestrial (i.e. not-cable, not-satellite, but regular one) TV in Europe, Australia, Taiwan and many other countries (not USA though). Here we present a full review of a Windows Mobile phone that is one of the first 2 (the other one is from LG and is not a smartphone) mobile phones in the world that can receive DVB-T: the gSmart t600 from GIGABYTE company from Taiwan! Interestingly DVB-T receiver that is built-in into t600 is very sensitive (more about it below!) and we were able to receive TV not only in moving cars, trains but also inside of an airplane (before departure of course):
... so if you are commuting to work, waiting for an airplane depature, or just boring yourself because you are waiting for something, with t600 you can get full TV experience combined with a Windows Mobile phone in one device! Not only reception is very good in t600, but also quality of the broadcast is perfect (here: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - Global Edition):
The reception of TV in the full, non-mobile standard of DVB-T, is the primary feature of this phone, so here are our impresssions from longer testing of this reception: O2 XDA Diamond coming April 25, 2008; [with touch-screen] O2 is a 3rd-class operator in Germany, where Vodafone and T-Mobile are the leading giants in mobile phone market and ePlus offers better/cheaper talk tariffs. German computer magazine "Computerwoche" runs a story where they describe what measures O2 is now undertaking to catch up with the market leaders... and these measures include not using national (!) roaming with T-Mobile network anymore, building their own HSDPA network, improving customer service... and introduction of next PDA phone from XDA series - built by HTC! This phone will be probably the same model as T-Mobile MDA compact IV pictured below, but with O2 branding. This very phone probably will be also unveiled on May 6 by HTC in London. Unlike other news sources, that give you some computer generated pictures, we actually have seen this phone in flesh:
HTC to present new touch-screen technology on May 6 ! April 24, 2008; [with touch-screen] The motto of HTC's announcement on May 6 is "innovation" and we already know, that in software area HTC will present successor to HTC TouchFLO (formerly leaked to the Internet in early version under code-name "HTC Manila"). We also know that HTC will be introducing for the first time phones VGA display of small (pocket) size - all previous HTC phones with high-resolution were big. Another innovation will be accelerated HSDPA - up to 7.2 Mbit/second. But what kind of hardware innovation we can expect in the area of touch-screen technologies? Previous page Next page  |
