Latest Mobile Windows News: User Guide of Dell Latitude XT leaked with more details about mobile broadband support December 04, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] Updated: see the end of this news story! Dell is breaking with old tradition of not making Tablet PC notebooks! Now everything is possible: also smartphones from Dell! Dell Latitude XT is not on sale yet but it will be one of the smallest Tablet PC notebooks, and apart from digitizer support it will support also genuine multi-touch display (unlike fake multi-touch that Lenovo offers although in fact it is just "single-touch combined with active digitizer"). Interestingly this small Tablet PC features built-in mobile broadband, including external "whip antenna": OQO e2 with HSDPA coming this week December 04, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] By now OQO UMPCs (Ultra Mobile PCs) were equipped in USA only with mobile broadband modules for CDMA EVDO. In Europe they were sold only without any mobile broadband (but with WiFi of course). August 12, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] By now HTC was showing the HTC Shift Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) - during various events and conferences - only behind a glass. However recently it has given one unit of HTC Shift to a Microsoft MVP (in Tablet PC area, from GottaBeMobile site) so that he should present it during Tech Ed Australia! The biggest revelation is that HTC Shift actually runs both Windows Vista and (!) Windows Mobile and it even has 2 processors and can run 2 modes! ... and new details have been revealed about this interesting device: Microsoft works on notebooks with multi-touch June 21, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] During press conference of Microsoft when UMPC was unveiled to the public for the first time in history we (we were there on location!!!) asked a question "what about support for multi-touch in UMPC?". At that time we didn't get any specific answer. But buy now Microsoft has unveiled commercially (!) the Microsoft Surface technology (a table with multi-touch display) and now it has been revealed, that Microsoft is working also on notebooks that would support genuine multi-touch:

Anyway: there is long way from Microsoft Research to Microsoft products, so this technology may never end up in Windows Mobile, but it is good to see that Microsoft, albeit slowly, is working on improvements of mobile device usage... Not much Windows Mobile at WinHEC conference - mostly UMPC in the spotlight May 16, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] Lots of mention about mobile devices in the WinHEC keynote by Bill Gates, but he was talking about UMPC rather than about Windows Mobile...
