LIVE EVENT COVERAGE: Mobius 2008! Visit twitter.com/msmobiles ! Latest Mobile Windows News: Not much Windows Mobile at WinHEC conference - mostly UMPC in the spotlight May 16, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] Lots of mention about mobile devices in the WinHEC keynote by Bill Gates, but he was talking about UMPC rather than about Windows Mobile... More details about HTC Shift revealed and further cooperation with Intel April 19, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] HTC announced the power behind the Shift device announced at CTIA; Intel’s new Ultra Mobile Platform. This mobile computing experience was officially announced at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing. Intel’s platform is based on the Pentium M architecture with optimizations for significantly extended battery life within a small form and includes the Intel A110 processor, Intel 945GU Express chipset, and Intel ICH7U I/O controller hub. CTIA 2007 : video report about FlipStart - UMPC that looks like ultra-small notebook April 01, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] It is just slightly bigger than Treo smartphone but offers full Windows Vista or Windows XP compatiblity and usable QWERTY keyboard! Furthermore it can be docked and used as desktop replacement and has support for cellular broadband connectivity. Here comes video presentation from Keith Arnodt from FlipStart:
... that you can see here (Flash-enabled browser needed): HTC Shift unveiled at CTIA - HTC jumps on the UMPC bandwagon with Windows Vista powered device with HSDPA March 26, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] First device from HTC branded by HTC but not powered by Windows Mobile is "HTC Shift" - a UMPC powered by Windows Vista (with Aero and Flip3D supported), that also features cellular connectivity ( including HSDPA), Wi-Fi, 30 GB hard disk.
HTC writes: Live from CeBIT 2007 : Samsung presents ULTRA - part 2 of 2 - UMPC March 16, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] Why Samsung should name successor to Q1 a Q2 if it can be called "Q1 Ultra"? ... and thus fit into overall Samsung's "Ultra" strategy !? Instead of giving you photo gallery and call it "hands-on with..." we are presenting here more interesting approach.... so firstly let's take a look at this chart from Samsung that compares old Q1 and Another reason to buy ultra mobile PC: Tablet PC features in Windows Vista - Vista mobile phones coming March 05, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] Once upon a time, in a time long forgotten, Tablet PC was a special add-on on top of Windows XP Professional and available as "Tablet PC Edition" of that OS.
Today, in modern times, not only Tablet PC features are pre-installed in contemporary Windows OS - Vista - but also ultra mobile PC computers of very small size, often with built-in cellular connectivity, and not just convertible notebook-looking Tablet PCs - are available on the market and they are equipped with Vista and all that powerful features of full size Tablet PCs! Several amazing Tablet PC features in Vista, including iPhone-like gestures (so called "pen flicks"), panning hand in IE and new touch pointer for multi-touch screens that handle both digitizer pen and finger in one device - are not only a good reason to upgrade your old Tablet PC to Vista but also a very good reason to forget about (yet) underpowered Windows Mobile and go straight to ultra mobile PC device: CES 2007 : video interview with OQO about OQO model 02 mobile PC January 14, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] OQO model 02 mobile PC (apparently the world's smallest PC powered by Windows Vista!) offers cellular connectivity over CDMA EVDO network of Sprint (USA), so in a sense it could be considered as Microsoft powered (Windows Vista !) mobile phone! It is powered by full Windows Vista operating system so it can run Skype and all other applications for desktop PC computers. This is already second generation of OQO mobile PC computers so no more teething problems should be found in this unit...
Here we present interview with OQO employee that our reporter carried out during CES 2007 (Flash-enabled browser needed): CES 2007: UMPC from Seamless Internet - with full size keyboard and 8 hours battery life - goes on sale ! January 06, 2007; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] While "ePC" from DualCor still is not shipping and looks like it always was just a vaporware here comes quite usable UMPC that has decent battery life and full size QWERTY keyboard! ... and is available for immediate delivery!
UMPC made by HTC coming - hopefully with genuine mobile phone functionality November 15, 2006; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] With existing UMPC and mini PC computers even if they have cellular data capability (i.e. mobile Internet access over cellular networks), one cannot make phone calls with them. Hopefully the HTC-designed and manufactured UMPC will have ability to make phone calls over regular cellular network! First usable mobile phone powered by Windows Vista Tablet PC edition apparently will be made by HTC and it is great news that HTC wants to release it already (!!!) next year: First-hand report from IFA 2006 : Samsung Q1 with HSDPA support - presented and speed tested September 05, 2006; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] Are you tired of Windows Mobile phones because they lack full-blown Windows XP OS? ... but on the other hand you are tired also of notebooks with cellular connectivity, because they have keyboard and display, that are completely unusable and too clumsy in many mobile situations? So maybe an ultra mobile PC (UMPC) with built-in cellular connectivity, including the fastest one (HSDPA), would be something for you! Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem brings UMTS and HSDPA also to UMPC and other mini PC computers August 08, 2006; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] Not just users of Mac computers but also users of various mini PCs powered by Windows XP and Windows XP Tablet PC edition can benefit from USB connectivity of this superb new UMTS/HSDBA USB Modem - probably manufactured by Huawei but branded and sold by Vodafone. Since these ultra mobile PCs have no PCMCIA card slot, having ability to use UMTS/HSDBA modem over USB will be very appreciated.
USB card for CDMA EVDO coming soon to Sprint in USA August 07, 2006; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] For all users of UMPC and Tablet PC computers in USA, and also for users of sub-notebooks, this is one of the best news ever! In USA Sprint wireless carrier offers very cheap and very good (fast) flat rate mobile Internet access, so now also users of ultra mobile PCs will be able to enjoy wireless broadband. Similar USB cards, but for UMTS and HSDPA - meaning: usable also in Europe and Asia - are also coming soon, among others from Huawei... cPC will have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth after all - but no cellular July 22, 2006; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] Initially cPC mobile computer with 2 processors and 2 operating systems was touted as Pocket PC phone (!) and Tablet PC in one! Later on cPC "engineering sample" units were being shipped for early adopters but they were not featuring any wireless built-in! Now it looks like DualCor - makers of cPC - are backpedalling and after all Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will be built-in: ALK and DELL release CoPilot Navigator 9 GPS Nav for Windows XP June 09, 2006; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] GPS unit used here is based on new software processing technology that uses power of the computer to higher extend... besides: it is nice deal for ALK Technologies - known by now as one of main providers of navigation software also for Windows Mobile... Since nowadays high-end smartphones/PDA phones are more expensive than some notebooks and ultra-mobile PCs, importance of mobile solutions for computers powered by Windows XP (and soon: Windows Vista) will be increasing... Sony VAIO UX now official May 16, 2006; [Ultra-Mobile PCs] This is a micro PC that takes your breath away just with looks:
... but the beauty of this computer is not skin deep: apart from built-in cellular phone connectivity and Wi-Fi, it has also more goodies on board: Previous page Next page  |
