Latest Mobile Windows News: TechFaith Q2 2008 results July 03, 2008; [General] Net month TechFaith compan that is located in China (not in Taiwan!) and that is making several Windows Mobile phones, mostly branded by others (MWg, Ubuiqio, i-mate, etc.) will hold phone conference. Interestingly they underline that they are "original developed product provider" and not one of several outlets that are just branding handsets designed and manufactured in Asia... Toshiba Portege G810 review published July 03, 2008; [with touch-screen] G810 is a rather mediocre phone with horrible battery life, but Spb integrations are good. It also has GPS and HSDPA but low resolution display (240x320) is disappointing. This review is very detailed by fails to mention which version of HSDPA this phone supports (1.8, 3.6 or 7.2?). Interesting feature of this phone is a built-in OCR software that converts photos into text: Trippr for Windows Mobile and 30 applications in 30 days July 03, 2008; [with touch-screen] Some people have too much free time on their hands... like certain developer, who has created 30 applications for Windows Mobile in 30 days and posted info about them, including source code. While most of these applications are not particularly interesting, the Trippr seems to be interesting: Access of NetFront Browser fame releases widgets and widget player for Windows Mobile July 02, 2008; [with touch-screen] NetFront Browser may be one of the best mobile browsers in the world, in some respects even better than Opera Mobile 9.5 (that can't handle some pages that NetFront can) but their widgets are not even running in NetFront browser but require NetFront Widget Player, that looks like this:
As you can see above the widgets can be floating or also can be maximized. Essentially widgets are just mini-web-pages constructed with use of HTML, JavaScript and images: Microsoft rebrands Windows Mobile user club July 01, 2008; [General] Windows Mobile Owners Circle has been renamed to Total Access. New website design arrived too. Great, but where is multi-touch support in Windows Mobile? Where is that promised Internet Explorer with IE6 rendering engine and Flash support? In recent months Microsoft has awarded in total 500 million USD to 2 marketing companies to polish Microsoft's image, particularly in Vista area, but Microsoft should be working on features rather than spending money on marketing. At the end no matter how much money will be spent on marketing, it all boils down to the features. Yet another review of HTC Touch Diamond published July 01, 2008; [with touch-screen] This phone is now on sale officially in Europe and Asia, so no wonder more and more reviews appear. This month (July 2008!) HTC Touch Diamond goes on sale in Europe through many operators, with and without operator branding, and we will see even more reviews... and since operators sometimes have higher requirements on phones than online stores, we can expect also some more ROM upgrades probably... Weekly audio: Windows Mobile related podcasts that have been published last week June 30, 2008; [with touch-screen] Consider reading websites and magazines only a half of knowledge. Here is the list of a very fresh podcast episodes about Windows Mobile phones, thanks to which you can learn how to get most out of your Windows Mobile phone or how to select next one: Reshuffle at Microsoft continues: J Allard now will take care also of Windows Mobile 7 ? June 30, 2008; [General] The guy who considers himself so cool, that he legally changed his name to just one letter, now is responsible for user experience in whole Entertainment and Devices (E&D) division, part of which is Windows Mobile! Will he take care about Windows Mobile 7 enough to notice that multi-touch is needed? Review: YouTube application in HTC Touch Diamond June 29, 2008; [with touch-screen] Videos on YouTube are like hapiness and money ("if you can't buy hapiness, then you don't know where to shop"): you can find anything on YouTube and if you can't find it, then you don't know how to search. Some people mention, that tilt sensor of HTC Touch Diamond is a feature that can sway many people to buy this phone, but another amazing advancement of this phone, is YouTube stand-alone application that is included in HTC Touch Diamond and that offers even high-quality watching meaning the image sharper than in iPhone because it uses full 640x480 pixels (and iPhone has only 320x480 pixels = 2 times less):
Once you open the YouTube application you see the following welcome screen (we publish screen shots here one-to-one, i.e. in original resolution as they appear in HTC Touch Diamond): Bill Gates leaves Microsoft for ever, but what has he contributed to Windows Mobile ? June 29, 2008; [with touch-screen] 2 days ago, on June 27, 2008, there was a last day of Bill Gates at Microsoft, who has founded Microsoft corporation and who recently was serving the role of chief architect and chairman and who still owns 9% of Microsoft. After leaving Microsoft, Bill Gates intends to get Nobel Peace Prize by giving away a lot of his money through charities.
(on picture above: Bill Gates talking to mobile phone industry in one of the conferences that we have attented) A lot has been said about Bill Gates and his contributions to computer industry (de-facto standardization of software for personal computers, spawning Web 2.0 by making AJAX possible in IE, etc.) but what was contribution of Bill Gates to mobile phone industry in general and to Windows Mobile in particular? New version of Fingertouch PRO virtual keyboard released June 28, 2008; [with touch-screen] It's an interesting solution for text entry on Windows Mobile but since some features are working wrongly in Windows Mobile with higher resolution displays:
... we cannot therefore recommended it (yet). More information from the software vendor: Review: camera in HTC Touch Diamond June 28, 2008; [with touch-screen] Nowadays cheap digital cameras have 10 megapixel resolution for still images, 10 times optical zoom, and full HD for videos (1920x1080 pixels) combined with many intelligent features including smile detection, face detection, etc. so naturally it is difficult for mobile phones with built-in camera to compete, even with cheap digital cameras - that after all are specialized in image taking. Rather than publishing one big review of HTC Touch Diamond, we are publishing reviews that cover some particular aspect: previously we have published listening to audio in HTC Touch Diamond, quality of phone calls in HTC Touch Diamond, video calling with HTC Touch Diamond. This time we present screen shots of camera software, sample photos and description of the camera that is built-in into HTC Touch Diamond:
HTC Touch Diamond has on-screen graphics, and during picture taking the 3 icons at the bottom are gallery, picture taking mode and settings: Opera Mobile 9.5 coming to all end users in the middle of July June 27, 2008; [with touch-screen] The only way to get Opera Mobile 9.5 now is to buy HTC Touch Diamond or the new HTC Advantage, in which this browser is embedded. Opera is not offering this browser for individual users for purchase yet and we have started to worry that it will never be released to end users and it will be offered only to manufacturers... but our worries are over: Microsoft acquires Portuguese mobility company June 27, 2008; [General] No official announcement from Microsoft yet in Microsoft's press zone, probably because this deal has not been finalized yet, but strangely Microsoft decided to buy MobiComp - a small company from Portugal (EU) that has just 2 products: Real-life comparison photos of HTC Touch Pro published June 27, 2008; [with touch-screen] HTC Touch Pro is much thicker than HTC Touch Diamond (here on top):
... so people should realize how tiny, how thin, HTC Touch Diamond is! Clearly HTC Touch Diamond is incredibly comfortable to carry. HTC Touch Pro is a version of HTC Touch Diamond with QWERTY slide-out keyboard that additionally features: Previous page Next page  |
