Latest Mobile Windows News: Windows Mobile PowerShell Provider released June 18, 2008; [General] Shell scripters rejoice! Windows PowerShell from Microsoft, which is the replacement for .bat and .vbs files now has a provider (a kind of snap-in) to extend it to Windows Mobile. MiTAC Mio Moov 380 - a Personal Navigation Device powered by Windows CE and Soleus software from Intrinsyc - launched June 17, 2008; [General] The main function of the device is navigation, but it is powered by Microsoft software (Windows CE) and can make phone calls! Not only mobile phones are getting built-in GPS but now also GPS devices are getting phone functionality. Note that since many GPS devices for usage in cars are powered by Windows CE (on which also Windows Mobile is based) it is only natural to observe new trend: adding mobile phone functionality to them...
Windows Mobile - a part of Telco 2.0 - according to Microsoft June 16, 2008; [General] At a telecommunications-related conference Microsoft is presenting also Windows Mobile. Similarly like Web 2.0, the Telco 2.0 denotes simply the next phase in telecommunications. It is good that Microsoft sees Windows Mobile as a part of this Telco 2.0. ... and traceroute: Microsoft patents how mobile phone users should behave June 06, 2008; [General] Not that we are bashing Microsoft or anything but we are just saying how it is: previously Microsoft has removed ability to synchronize Windows Mobile phones over WiFi with PC computers due to alleged security problems. Many thousands of users were using this feature but Microsoft didn't care - just removed the feature. Microsoft removed this feature altogether instead of just switching it off by default or securing it by usage of something like HTTPS protocol. This time Microsoft is going one step further and tells you how to behave when it comes to your mobile phohe usage. Furthermore Microsoft has patented it as "Mobile Device Manners Propagation and Compliance". Shortly speaking Microsoft infrastructure could prevent your Windows Mobile phone from making phone calls or taking photos... Maybe instead of limiting what users can do, Microsoft could focus on improving Windows Mobile to increase possibilities!? Where is Windows Mobile 7? Where is multi-touch in Windows Mobile? Where is promised Internet Explorer for Windows Mobile 6.1 with IE6 rendering engine and built-in Flash? All delayed, probably because Microsoft is wasting time on limiting users, not empowering them with new features... Earth to Microsoft: this is not the innovation that users expect!
