Latest Mobile Windows News: SCO releases HipCheck for Pocket PC October 09, 2006; [PDA] Mobile versions of some programs, including the fantastic Skype, are not available for Symbian at all, but only for Windows Mobile. SCO HipCheck is a tool for system administrators, whose work is to manage servers powered by SCO Unix and Windows. It has been released in mobile version only for Windows Mobile, Pocket PC edition, not for Symbian.
NewsGator Go! RSS reader released September 21, 2006; [PDA] There are plenty of FREE RSS readers for Windows Mobile devices, so if somebody offers commercial and actually expensive program - $29.95 is a lot for mobile application - then you would expect something special... ... but this program NewsGator Go! is rather disappointing and may be interesting just for people who formerly were users of NewsGator web based RSS reading service. Apart from that NewsGator Go! doesn't support podcasting (enclosure tag in RSS feeds) so you must be really desperate to buy it... Software for Widows Mobile for remote management of servers released by Avocent September 18, 2006; [PDA] The trial version of this software is of size 125 MB, includes obviously server side part, and requires registration key, that is being sent to you if you request it. Anyway this software supports Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition and Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC. Of course you can use remote desktop protocol (RDP) and built-in in Pocket PC "Terminal Services Client" to connect to Windows Server 2003 and administer it through remote display, but it is cumbersome, and Sonic-Admin from Avocent seems to be much more effective:
More information from Avocent follows. Virtual Earth Mobile 1.67 released September 18, 2006; [PDA] Almost useless outside of USA, in USA however this application is almost a must-have for all Windows Mobile users. Since there were changes on the server, you must download new version to keep all functionality... Map24 Mobile for Pocket PC released - with maps of Europe September 11, 2006; [PDA] Map24 is an online mapping service quite popular in Europe, although it is much slower than Google Maps, with inferior user interface... Instead of putting whole map on the SD card, this program is connecting to the server and is fetching (the most up to date) data.

TomTom Navigator 6 to be launched next month, review already published August 31, 2006; [PDA] TomTom Navigator 6 is a version of TomTom for PDAs and since TomTom generally is the most popular GPS navigation software in Europe, this major version upgrade may be of interest to many existing users of this program... Run Many GPS Applications Using One GPS August 30, 2006; [PDA] We have no idea, why there is a need for this program at all, because Windows Mobile 5.0 can do it with built-in functionality too, but well, we are just reporting... Update: Johan Franson from Franson Technology explains: SlingPlayer for Pocket PC released in version 1.1 BETA August 28, 2006; [PDA] Recently we have published review of SlingPlayer for Pocket PC (version 1.0) and now already new version - 1.1 BETA is available for download! Since SlingMedia's support for Windows Mobile is excellent and their SlingBox is one of the best ways to have your own private mobile TV (the mobile TV offerings from mobile operators usually doesn't contain full featured TV channels), it is good news that they keep developing Windows Mobile version of their SlingPlayer...
(in the image above: watching British Big Brother over the Internet - on a Windows Mobile phone). Post to Blogger from your Windows Mobile device - through new version of Hubdog August 25, 2006; [PDA] Hubdog seems to be a bit dodgy: user registration is required, intermediary server of Hubdog is used in communication, and there is no installation with CAB only (directly to Windows Mobile device) but only EXE setup program for PC. Due to the forcible user registration personally we wouldn't touch this program with a barge pole, but since some people may be interested in it, here we are providing information, that this program, now, apart from being RSS reader with podcasting, supports also ability to post to Google's Blogger blogging service: TextSpeech Pro for Pocket PC - text-to-speech software - updated August 18, 2006; [PDA] Don't believe us, but just listen to this program speaking by clicking here - a sample text spoken by TextSpeech Pro for Pocket PC program! We have reviewed this text-to-speech program recently but now already new version with major upgrades has arrived! This program can speak (text-to-speech) in the following languages: U.S. English, U.K. English (Americas), Spanish, Canadian French, German. Also female voice "Kate" has been added apart from male "Paul" voice and users can purchase abuot 20 other male and female voices in above mentioned languages from Cepstral. If you need some texts to be read aloud for you for some reason, then this program can do it for you!
New Skype for Pocket PC released - 2.1.053 August 15, 2006; [PDA] There is no Skype for Symbian yet, so having Skype for Windows Mobile for Pocket PC clearly is a competitive advantage... and it is good to see that Skype has not forgotten Windows Mobile although still there is no version for Windows Mobile for Smartphone (and probably there will never be - now that Skype has been overtaken by eBay and has become less agile)... Right Menu for Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC released August 01, 2006; [PDA] Since Windows Mobile version 5.0 in Pocket PC version of this operating system a new feature has been introduced: 2 soft keys - similarly like it was available already previously in MS Smartphone. Here comes a program that takes advantage of this new soft key functionality of Windows Mobile 5.0: MultiIE 4 D71 released - a plugin for IE now available in bug-free version also for Windows Mobile 5.0 July 25, 2006; [PDA] We have been waiting with publication of the news story about the new version of MultiIE for Windows Mobile 5.0 until it has been debugged and released in a version that can be finally considered as bug-free and stable! This is not a cheap program - it costs 17.95 U.S. dollars - but it is worth the price. With MultiIE plug-in for Pocket Internet Explorer (IE):
... not only it is possible to obtain multiple tabs (i.e. to have several web pages open at the same time): Now available for download: Public Beta - FlexMail 2007 and Pocket Informant 2007 July 24, 2006; [PDA] If integrated Windows Mobile applications are not enough for you, you can get a third party applications, that offer much more features for example such like FlexMail 2007 and Pocket Informant 2007 - a major new releases of quite well known Windows Mobile applications!
