Microsoft smartphone made by CMCS for Motorola coming to USA first August 01, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. Cellular network operators in USA demand it, so Motorola delivers it: the Microsoft smartphone! It looks like AT&T Wireless will be the first operator to use Microsoft smartphone by Motorola: the CMCS Smartphone will be launched by Motorola in the third quarter, possibly for AT&T Wireless Services. In the US GPRS market, it appears that Cingular is heading in the Handspring Treo 600 and/or Java direction and T-mobile may be working with HTC for a branded device. [...] It is believed that the CMCS Smartphone is based on Texas Instruments (TI) OMAP 510 reference design, the same platform used in the Orange SPV. [...] Although the OMAP 510 is a mature design and can be brought to market quickly, it offers far less processing power than smartphones built on Intel’s XScale platform such as those now being manufactured or developed by Mitac, Wistron, Asustek Computer and possibly LG Electronics. Since the processing power may not be enough for advanced multimedia applications, and since it does not have a built-in camera, this device will more than likely be targeted at the corporate market.
