Microsoft smartphone made by Motorola is just a rumor
August 05, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1.
Several news sources and web sites were loudly announcing
that Motorola will be producing this particular cell phone:
... powered by Microsoft smartphone software, but is it really a truth?
Not. It is not correct. Some facts:
- asked about this smartphone a spokeswoman for Motorola said: "Our policy is not to comment on rumors or speculation"
- asked about this smartphone a spokesman for Microsoft said: "We work with a variety of partners to serve our customer needs. We have no news to share at this time."
- neither Motorola nor Microsoft confirmed officially the release of a cell phone powered by Microsoft smartphone software and made by Motorola (above quotes come from "THE WALL STREET JOURNAL" and not from some home cooked web sites made in Norway)
- lately Motorola announced several "WHATSNEXTMOTO" presentations, that can be found here, presentations that describe Motorola´s plans for next years, but there is not even one reference to Microsoft smartphone software there
- the phone pictured on photos and images on the many web sites is in reality a production of Chi Mei Communication Systems, Inc - a Taiwan based company
- the application to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for this phone was made by Chi Mei Communication Systems, not by Motorola (see for yourself here)
