Nokia attacks Microsoft through bureaucracy of European Union (EU) August 09, 2003 [General] | By anonymous 1. Forget about "can´t we all just be a friends?" stories. Nokia together with some other anti-Microsoft companies is proactively attacking Microsoft. The Wallstreet Journal (WSJ.com) writes: In a broader complaint filed with the European Commission in February, a coalition of Microsoft opponents focused on the company´s strategies, including bundling, in an array of new markets. Among these are such potentially lucrative fields as Internet portals, Internet advertising and instant messaging, as well as software for hand-held computing devices, smart phones , videogame systems and TV set-top boxes. [...] "Bundling is the key weapon in Microsoft´s competitive arsenal," says Thomas Vinje, a Brussels-based lawyer for Morrison & Foerster LLP. "If they´re forced to abandon that weapon, then the competitive landscape really will change." Mr. Vinje represents the Computer and Communications Industry Association, a group of Microsoft competitors that filed the recent complaint in February. Association members include Sun Microsystems Inc., Oracle Corp., Nokia Corp. and AOL Time Warner Inc. See also related news item about EU giving Microsoft "the last opportunity" here.
