Xbox goes Wi-Fi, now it is time for Smartphone?
September 03, 2003 [Wireless (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ...)] | By anonymous 1.
FCC leaked last weak some info on upcoming Xbox Wireless Adaptor (model: MN-470) to be sold by Microsoft for users of Xbox - the Microsoft´s game console. The adaptor has been confirmed by Microsoft´s spokeswoman
to be approved by FCC. It will allow for wireless connections between Xbox consoles and other wireless devices with speeds of 54 megabits per second (two Wi-Fi standards already allow for such speeds in existing mobile devices). Microsoft´s spokeswoman said also that pictures from FCC web site:
... (now removed) are not (!) photos of the final product and it will look differently.
It looks like Microsoft is embracing more widely Wi-Fi as previously expected. Please note that all (!) Microsoft smartphones are equipped with SDIO card slots, so after minor software upgrade they could become Wi-Fi capable. In this way Microsoft could beat competition in easy and cost effective way! Wi-Fi in Microsoft smartphone could become a significant edge over competition. Unfortunately within Microsoft there are still some inhibitions widespread, that don´t allow for releasing/porting software from Pocket PC (like SQL CE, Microsoft Reader, support for Wi-Fi) to Microsoft smartphone platform. This is huge mistake and we kindly ask Microsoft to correct it, and to allow for Wi-Fi access from our Microsoft smartphones! Hardware-wise it is (!) possible due to availability of SDIO card slots and SDIO Wi-Fi cards... just minor software upgrade is needed. Can Microsoft handle it or complacency is too big out there?
