Article for developers: SmartPhone 2003 and .NETcf Primer September 09, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. Before reading further you must realize one thing: developing software with .NET for Smartphone and Pocket PC is VERY VERY EASY and everybody can do it, not just professional embedded developers! Casey Chesnut has written an article for DEVBUZZ.com: This article will detail my early observations of managed coding for the SmartPhone (SP) with the .NET Compact Framework (.NETcf). The differences to managed coding for the PocketPC (PPC) will be pointed out, as well as some things that are new. DEVBUZZ.com, owned by Derek Mitchell, is one of major enthusiast sites devoted to programming with eVB (embedded Visual Basic) that was/is available only for Pocket PC phones and PDAs. With introduction of .NET CF, many existing eVB developers are converting to VB.NET and start writing programs for Pocket PC and also for Smartphone! This article is a good introduction for developers wishing to develop software for Smartphone with .NET CF and developers who previously just used embedded Visual Basic! Conclusions of the article: The SmartPhone 2003 SDK allows for managed coders to begin developing apps for the SmartPhone. It will be an easy transition for those already familiar with the .NETcf and developing for the PocketPC or CE. To read the article click here.
