DigiTimes continues misinformation: false claims about MiTAC 8390 September 23, 2003 [General] | By anonymous 1. Marc Plumb from DigiTimes writes to us: We are a fairly large news group with over 200 editors, reporters etc. Digitimes is a daily printed newspaper read by almost every IT company in Taiwan. It is not a hack newsite. Our English website is primarily for foreign investors and large IT corporations looking for the latest in industry news and finance. Nonetheless DigiTimes amateurishly claims that MiTAC 8390 presented at Computex Taipei 2003 is the first Smartphone 2003 device, despite the fact... ... that in reality dopod 515 (smartphone based on model " Canary" made by HTC) is such a phone (click here for more information on the dopod smartphone with Smartphone 2003 software). Normally we wouldn´t bother to point out such mistake but this time this basic error is spreading massively all over web sites and news sources, that repeat after DigiTimes the wrong information that "MiTAC presented the first in the world Smartphone 2003 cell phone". Not only this claim is an obvious lie and contributes to massive misinformation but also the MiTAC Mio 8390 smartphone itself is just a prototype of unknown release date (dopod 515 with Smartphone 2003 is already on sale; MiTAC Mio 8390 will be on sale next year, and by this time not only dopod 515 but also SPV2/C200 will be on the market). Having no Bluetooth and such design features not liked in Europe like protruding antenna and clamshell design will not help this new MiTAC smartphone too...
