Dell releases Pocket PC with built-in Wi-Fi soon September 26, 2003 [Wireless (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ...)] | By anonymous 1. Dell, the biggest computer vendor in the world, has not released yet any Tablet PC computer! If Dell hasnīt released it then it means that is no good... but if Dell goes for it then it must be good:
On picture above you can observe the new Dell Axim Pocket PC that features built-in Wi-Fi (Wireless LAN). The protruding antenna is in fact a Wi-Fi antenna! Why this announcement is significant? Because Dell will bring with this move cheap and good Pocket PC devices with built-in Wi-Fi! By now the models with built-in Wi-Fi were the more expensive high-end devices, but in terms of Dell economy the price of the Dell Pocket PC with built-in Wi-Fi will be below 400 USD (and they are smaller than old ones, have more stylish design and feature SDIO, not just SD, card slot). By now all users of Dell Pocket PCs needed to buy add-on Wi-Fi card, what was not a comfortable solution and prevented users from using slots for other purposes. Now users get everything they need in one package. And since Dell is known from making reliable and cost effctive computers (their notebooks, particularly D-series, are second to none), the new Dellīs Pocket PCs with Wi-Fi bring new life into the whole Pocket PC platform. Please note: although Wi-Fi is very widespread and massively available in USA already, it is not the case with Europe yet, therefore some Europeans may not quite understand that whole Wi-Fi bubble yet, and thatīs why 3G has more chances in Europe than in USA... The new Dell Pocket PC devices ultimately confirm, that Microsoft has won the battle for mobile PDAs with built-in Wi-Fi. Now we are looking forward for Microsoft smartphones from Dell...
