Unlock Service for MiTAC Mio 8380

Do you own MiTAC 8380 smartphone and you are frustrated, that you cannot run all smartphone applications, but just some, not all, code signed software? Donīt despair because MiTAC Unlock Service is coming...
... and MiTAC already announced it officially here or eventually here and click on the "Unlock Service" banner. As of now you have to know Chinese language well and have serial number of your MiTAC 8380 smartphone at hand if you wish to use it... but we are looking forward for an English version of this service too.
Lately announced MiTAC Mio 8390 smartphone will be released in year 2004 and the Mio 8380 model is the only Microsoft smartphone model with XScale processor on the market now. It would be nice if MiTAC could sort out these code signing problems before launching the MiTAC Mio 8380 in Europe (estimated time: before the year end of 2003), because already now users in Europe are massively frustrated and angry at Microsoft smartphones from Orange that are software locked and prevent users from access to steadily growing pool of excellent freeware software. This frustration is additionaly even bigger because competing smartphones powered by Symbian does not have this limitation and users can install there any software they wish. This cardinal mistake of Microsoft - to introduce this code signing at all - now is being propagate through vendors and operators...
On top of the usual problems with code signing (no access to freeware), MiTAC and Microsoft have another problem, not resolved by now, that prevents from running of many commercial and code signed applications in the Mio 8380 smartphone! MiTAC has configured the security settings in Mio 8380 not properly but it is rather Microsoft that has not provided a verifying software tool in first place that MiTAC could use to check these settings. MiTAC already since several weeks, if not months, tries to resolve these problems with locking and with not running of properly code signed software, but by now all these efforts were unsuccessful. Now there is hope that Unlock Service for Mio 8380 will solve these problems at last... hope, but still no certainty - so we advice you to withhold any buying decision regarding smartphones made by MiTAC! In other words: donīt buy smartphone made by MiTAC unless these problems will be resolved.
