Live from Switzerland: Microsoft smartphones at the stand of Microsoft
October 12, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1.
We are reporting live from Geneva, Switzerland, directly from
Media Centre of ITU World Telecom 2003 conference - a global
conference, that takes places once in 4 years.
Look at these photos of Microsoft´s stand:
First here is the overall view of the Microsoft´s stand, including
all possible topics, not only Windows Mobile (i.e. not only
Microsoft smartphone and Pocket PC phone):
... where you can observe that next to Microsoft the stand of
Samsung (one of 2 Samsung stands) is located.
On the right side of the Microsoft´s stand, in the corner, there
is a section for Windows Mobile. Picture of this section, made
from the first floor of the Samsung´s stand looks like this:
So, coming to the topic, what are the smartphones that Microsoft
presents this year at the ITU conference? Well, apart from already
available on the market phones like "Tanager" made by HTC (sold
also as Orange SPV E100), there are some new phones
presented:
- behind the glass (meaning: not on the market, long time-to-market yet):
- Voq from Sierra Wireless
- Samsung SCH-i600
- at individual tables, so that everyone can touch and try them
(meaning: time-to-market very short, release to market for end
users is imminent) the following new models are being:
- a toy for each boy - Orange SPV E200 (the one to the left):
... that features built-in camera, built-in .NET, and built-in Bluetooth so fun is guaranteed for all boys, who like toys.
- stylish and very small in size - Motorola MPx200 (the one to the right):
.. that has no built-in camera or Bluetooth (camera is
attachable, Bluetooth may be attachable, but it is not sure), but is
very small, very handy and very nice to hold in your hand; ladies
will be enchanted by this model.
Although no new significant smartphone announcements have been
made by Microsoft or by its partners at this ITU conference (all
smartphones presented here were announced already before the
conference), the progress at Microsoft smartphone platform is very
significant and visible. In coming 1-2 months 2 significant
additions to this platform offering are being released to end
users (SPV E200 in Europe and MPx200 both in Europe and in USA),
so that now almost every cell phone user will be able to find
something for him/herself. Next year will bring more models: the
Voq, the Samsung SCH-i600 and new Motorola smartphones that will
add the lacking Bluetooth and camera. All in all Microsoft
smartphone future is bright although not necessarily orange...
