What is so special in voq smartphone? Will it ever be vogue? October 14, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. During ITU conference in Switzerland we visited the Sierra Wireless stand (small stand anyway) and we were playing with the voq smartphone. Here are some pictures of this phone compared to "Tanager" made by HTC (the same as Orange SPV E100) and some our impressions from using of this phone. Firstly here is the picture of the voq (to the left, with open keyboard) with Tanager:
... and here you can see high resolution comparative picture of voq and Tanager:
Here is the back side of the voq (to the left) and Tanager:
The following picture presents the "About" dialog of the voq:
... that shows clearly that it runs Smartphone 2003 operating system! * * * What´s so special with voq? It has mini-QWERTY keyboard but other than that? No built-in Bluetooth, no built-in camera. No nothing! Well, there is one thing that people from Sierra Wireless mentioned, or rather were pretending that they know what they are talking about: the "always up to date outlook". But, stop! It is nothing special to voq - it is a feature of Smartphone 2003 software, nothing from Sierra Wireless!!!! On the question "why this voq is better? it looks soooo big..." they answered "but it offers so much more!"... however they failed to specify what more! Unfortunately we came to conclusion that this phone, apart from having quite fast 200 MHz XScale processor and the mini-QWERTY keyboard (it is very very small, with no backlight and hardly usable for normal people with normal-size fingers), this voq smartphone offers nothing special in fact! And the size of it is huge. We understand that Sierra Wireless wants to sell it as enterprise tool for mobile professionals, but we hardly can believe that this phone makes any difference or that it is significantly better than many other Microsoft smartphones... * * * For comparison's sake here is the same "Tanager" model from above photos, but this time together with the small and handy Motorola MPx200 smartphone:
... or in others words: voq is too big and has too little features to make any difference.
