Comparison of PalmOS-based smartphones with Symbian and Microsoft, more infos on Samsung SGH-i505, Samsung SPH-i500 and Samsung SGH-i500

As a follow-up to our previous story - interview with PalmSource about their PalmOS-based smartphones (see here to read it) - we provide hereby more information from PalmSource, including interesting comparative references to Microsoft powered cell phones like Pocket PC Phone XDA II and Motorola MPx200.

As you can see on the following picture the plans of Samsung regarding Palm OS powered cell phones are bright:

... what cannot be said about Microsoft smartphone -related plans of Samsung (see here for latest information about Samsung dumping Microsoft smartphone).

Samsung SGH-i500 (Europe)

  • cell phone system: GSM/GPRS, tri-band (900 MHz / 1800 MHz / 1900 MHz)

Samsung SGH-i500 (US)
  • Processor: 66 MHz (not ARM)
  • RAM: 16 MB
  • OS: Palm OS 4.1
  • cell phone system: CDMA 1x (fast packet-based transmission, such "GPRS for CDMA")


Samsung SGH-i505 (US)
  • Processor: ARM9
  • RAM: 32 MB
  • OS: Palm OS 5.2
  • camera resolution: VGA (640x480)
  • features: MMS/WAP 2.0
  • cell phone system: GSM/GPRS, tri-band (900 MHz / 1800 MHz / 1900 MHz)
Here is more info and photos of the SGH-i505, that is has fantastic feature: rotable display that is a touch-screen at the same time (in other words it can be used exactly the same way as Tablet PC):

This Samsung SGH-i505 is one heck of an impressive smartphone! Rotable display in combination with touchscreen creates very usable and the same time very small cell phone. Hopefully some Pocket PC phones with such construction will be available in the future...
