Intrinsyc Unveils MicroPhone Telephony Software suite - make your own cell phone based on Windows CE .NET in no time!
October 22, 2003 [General] | By anonymous 1.

If you, similarly like Neonode cell phone developers, don´t like licensing Microsoft Smartphone or Pocket PC Phone software from Microsoft, you can buy this telephony suite from Intrinsyc and make quickly a fully featured cell phone based on the core Windows CE operating system. And the fun thing is that you don´t have to reinvent the wheel as Neonode folks do: you can just take this suite and make the phone faster.

Take a look at this picture of the architecture of Intrinsyc MicroPhone:

... where you can see that MicroPhone, similarly as "Pocket PC Phone Edition" and "Microsoft Smartphone" is a layer of applications over Windows CE operating system. Full info about this program follows.

Unique telephony software provides highly portable and customizable solution for companies building wireless devices based on Windows CE .NET and Windows Mobile Software for Pocket PC

Intrinsyc Software International, announced the availability of its new MicroPhone Telephony Software. MicroPhone is a unique suite of telephony drivers and applications that can be embedded in wireless devices based on Windows CE .NET and Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC. MicroPhone allows Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to create devices with custom telephony functions and provide integrated voice and data capabilities with superior usability. These benefits allow OEMs to create a differentiated product offering, while dramatically reducing the time and cost associated with bringing new devices to market.

A Fully Customizable Telephony Suite

MicroPhone tightly integrates a device´s voice/data wireless modem capabilities with the core OS functionality of Windows CE .NET or Windows Mobile. MicroPhone provides powerful options to customize the user interface, embed unique value-added applications, and support an extensive list of wireless modems, while maintaining a small footprint. Some of the key features of MicroPhone include:
  • Enables complete customization of the device´s user interface.
Through the use of background bitmaps and XML-based skins, customized interface design and product branding quickly become a simple task. This allows OEMs to deliver a product with a unique look and feel and provides wireless carriers with the ability to create and offer a variety of unique, downloadable end-user skins and interfaces.
  • Provides off-the-shelf value-added telephony applications.
Based on Intrinsyc´s experience in integrating wireless modems with device OS and processor functionality, MicroPhone contains several applications including:
    • Voice Dialer application
    • Phone Status Monitor
    • Log Viewer (voice, data and text messages)
    • Configuration Control Panel Applets
    • Short Messaging Service (SMS) Manager
  • Supports a wide range of industry standard modems.
Plug-in phone driver modules offer support for a range of GSM/GPRS and HSCSD modems with extendable options for many more.
  • Ensures a footprint size that is right for handheld devices.
Maintaining a small code size for constrained devices is a key issue when building wireless handhelds - MicroPhone was designed to provide powerful and configurable functionality with only a 1.6 MB footprint.
"With all the benefits of a proven operating system for smart, connected, small-footprint devices, Windows CE .NET provides a rich foundation of capabilities to enable integrated voice and data solutions," said Scott Horn, Director, Embedded Devices Group at Microsoft Corp. "MicroPhone brings added flexibility and rich telephony features to device manufacturers building products based on our operating systems. It´s an excellent way for manufacturers or wireless carriers to help differentiate a device´s functionality and user interface."

"MicroPhone creates new opportunities for OEMs to deliver innovative handheld applications that clearly help set their devices apart from others in the market", said Derek Spratt, Intrinsyc´s President and Chief Executive Officer. "By providing innovative embedded software applications and services, Intrinsyc enables device OEMs to create highly differentiated, feature-rich products with significantly reduced investments in time and money".
