Analysis of the insides of XDA II Pocket PC phone available
October 25, 2003 [Pocket PC phone] | By anonymous 1.
Guys from xda-developers.com are fantastic. They love XDA (a type of Pocket PC phones made by HTC in Taiwan and sold in several countries under various brands), and they have created there, over at xda-developers.com a main hacking place for all XDA lovers. Now they got into their hands the latest version of this gadget - the "XDA II". Let´s be sincere: the "XDA II" is the best cell phone powered by Microsoft software that was ever made. It has built-in Bluetooth, built-in camera, features fast processor (XScale 400 MHz based on ultra-fast chipset PXA263), possibility to attach CF compatible backpack and SDIO Now! compatible SDIO slot. This is one of few cell phones worldwide that can use Wi-Fi (it is possible through SDIO Wi-Fi card). Now the guys from xda-developers.com have analyzed the insides of this great cell phone:
Some selected points from their analysis:
- It no longer has a hard-reset hole: if you hold power while resetting, it is a hard reset. If you want to access the bootloader, you should press any direction on the 5-way rocker switch while also pressing power and resetting (takes practice to do using only your hands...).
- The device has 128MByte RAM, 32 MB flash ROM (internal to the Xscale CPU...) for the Operating System, and 32 MB on a "disk-on-chip". 14.5 MB out of these 32MB are available to the user as non-volatile ´Storage´.
- COM3 is dedicated to IR (no more sharing with wired RS232), COM6 is Bluetooth.
