First user reviews of Orange SPV E200 available
November 04, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1.
Some time in November 2003 Orange will start selling Orange SPV E200 phone
(model "Voyager" made by HTC). However already now some people (mainly
developers and journalists) got the phones.
(on picture above: Orange SPV E200; please note the third icon from the left in the title bar - it is symbol of Bluetooth!)
There are 2 user reviews of SPV E200 available, and although they are not
written in English, very high resolution photos and automatic translation
make the worthwhile:
- review of
Orange SPV E200 in German (automatic translation to English here)
itīs a very very detailed review with high resolution and high quality
images; interestingly it features also photos made with the built-in camera
of the phone, including example of picture zooming with the zoom function
- short review of Orange SPV E200 in French (automatic translation to English here)
just first impressions, but contains interesting pictures
Here are some highlights from above 2 user reviews:
- SPV E200 is significantly faster than SPV E100 and SPV
- SPV E200 can be used as a modem over Bluetooth - in this way you can
connect to Internet, through SPV E200, from your Pocket PC or from your PC
computers
- joystick is even better than in SPV E100 (i.e. Tanager)
- MMS is integrated into "Inbox" - not just a separate third party
application
- the is software locked and SIM locked
- new icon: Bluetooth symbol appears in title bar
- on the left side of the phone there is a "record" button that previously
was used for starting Voice Notes program, but now it starts camera picture
capturing application
- infrared reception - can be switched on - no need to go to "infrared
receive" each time
- zoom function is available, when in camera application lower (than 640x
480) resolution is selected
All in all it looks like Orange SPV E200 (that we will be sold also as "QTek
8080" and "O2 Xphone") will be the first smartphone on the market, that
will be able to compete with competition from Symbian on equal terms.
Not only new hardware features have been added (built-in camera and built-in
Bluetooth) but also the operating system has been improved. One main
disadvantage of SPV E200 in comparison to competition, is lack of brand
recognition among consumers - everybody have heard about "Nokia" or "Sony", but not many have heard of "SPV" or "QTek"...
