Juha Christensen - top boss of Microsoft smartphone - is leaving Microsoft November 06, 2003 [General] | By anonymous 1. Since December 2003 he works no more for Microsoft. He was top boss of Microsoft´s efforts in cell phone industry - above him were only 2 people: Steve Ballmer (CEO of Microsoft) and Bill Gates (main owner of Microsoft).
(on picture above: Juha Christensen answering questions of webmasters in October 2002) Juha Christensen is a citizen and national of Denmark (EU). Despite typically Finnish first name "Juha" he is Danish (he confirmed it to us personally). Before Microsoft he was working in UK (EU) for Psion and Symbian. Then he moved to Microsoft to Redmond (USA), where he was supervising, for 3 years, development of Microsoft smartphone - the first mass market cell phone powered by Microsoft software. Andrew Orlowski from British tabloid "The Register" writes: Juha Christensen, Microsoft´s executive VP with responsibility for smartphones, is opting for a quieter life. From the end of this month he´ll no longer have to endure ear-splitting motivational talks from Steve Ballmer, Microsoft confirmed today, as he´s leaving the company. ... click here to read more from this tabloid. No official information about the real reason of Juha´s departure is available from him yet, and all news by now are just speculations. We can just say that it may have something to do with cardinal errors of Microsoft in cell phone industry, that we outlined in an article here. Please note also, that it was decision of Juha Christensen to software lock Microsoft smartphones - the dreaded code signing requirement to run software, that discouraged developers and prevented many freeware applications for smartphone from being created. The following quote from Wireless Week may shed some light on the real reason, but in such situations usually the "official version" is not the same as the truth: Juha Christensen, will leave the company the end of the month to start his own Silicon Valley-based mobile devices services company, Microsoft said today. Read more from Wireless Week here. Last, not least: Microsoft´s spokesperson writes: Yesterday, Juha Christensen announced that he will be leaving Microsoft to start a new company focused on creating Web services for smart devices. Juha will move to the Bay Area to be closer to family. At Microsoft, Juha has done great work creating business momentum for our mobile devices division. We’re sorry to see him go, but are thrilled with the opportunity of partnering with him in this new venture
