New freeware: Ping program for Smartphone 2002 available November 26, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. We have tested it personally and it works through GPRS as you can see on the picture below:
This is a useful network utility, that lets you check whether some server or computer is down or up! You can specify number repetitions and it reports you in milliseconds the ping response time. To to download this program for free click here (remember: you need to be registered and logged in into forum there, to be able to download; registration there is also free). Ping uses ICMP Iternet Control Message Protocol - network protocol to verify connecting to another host. The name "ping" is taken from the sonar operation to locate objects. The Ping program tests whether another host is reachable. The program sends an ICMP echo request message to a host, expecting an ICMP echo reply to be returned. Normally if you canīt Ping a host, you wonīt be able to Telnet or FTP to that host. Conversely you canīt Telnet to a host. Ping is often the starting point to determine what the problem is. Ping also measures the round-trip time to the host, giving us some indication of how "far away" that host is. Important notice: this is an early BETA version of this Ping program and new versions are coming soon! So feel free to download it now but keep in mind that in next weeks new version will be out with some corrections. Developer of this program comes from PocketPC.ch.
