Rumor mill: Motorola MPx200 gets ROM upgrade to Smartphone 2003 in February 2004, Motorola MPx220 not coming anytime soon December 12, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. Apparently it will not be Motorola MPx220 that will be released around February 2004, but it will be ROM upgrade to Smartphone 2003! Since Motorola MPx200 has no built-in Bluetooth and no built-in camera, preparing such upgrade is much much easier than for some other smartphones... Previous rumors about Motorola preparing Smartphone 2003 upgrade are getting more and more confirmations from various sources. Generally the idea is that Motorola is now testing Smartphone 2003 internally in MPx200 phones, and that rumors about MPx220 (successor to MPx200) were simply false. What brings Smartphone 2003? Above all it brings improved Smartphone application layer (including RIM-like push technology from Exchange server and multiple e-mail accounts), new core OS (Windows CE 4.2 and not Windows CE 3.0 like in Smartphone 2002) and last not least: the .NET technology is pre-installed in ROM. In other words: after upgrade to Smartphone 2003, the phone gets ability to run several (mostly free) .NET applications and the same hardware runs the OS approximately 30% faster.
