Equivox Voice Activated Applications Optimized for Intel PCA–based Processors for Smartphones

Equivox has received an award from Intel in recognition of the development of VOXit Mailer for the Intel powered MiTAC smartphone and has been selected by Intel to join its prominent Intel PCA Developer Network community. Intel and Equivox have worked closely to deliver smartphone-centric voice applications built using the sophisticated word recognition engine from Equivox.

VOXit Mailer has been optimized for the Intel Personal Internet Client Architecture (Intel PCA) and was successfully demonstrated on a MiTAC Mio Digiwalker 8380 smartphone at the Intel stand during the ITU Telecom World 2003 event in Geneva, Switzerland from 12 -18 October.

VOXit Mailer uses voice commands that leverage state-of-the-art word recognition and text-to-speech so that users can activate, listen and reply to emails whilst on the move. Compatible with standard email applications, VOXit Mailer can also be used to create and forward emails and can be synchronized with a user’s desktop.

“VOXit Mailer is a unique solution in the market for wireless devices, offering truly hands-free e-mail for enterprise and consumer targeted smartphones," said Gary Forni, director of Intel’s PCA ISV Enabling Program. “The comprehensive feature-set of Equivox applications such as VOXit Mailer emphasize the value of a high performance processor such as the Intel XScale microprocessor in cell phones and PDAs. In the quest for service differentiation, we believe that Mobile Communication Providers will look to intuitive applications like VOXit Mailer to help subscribers quickly become familiar with even more advanced services that are continually being launched into the marketplace.”

Ian Anderton, Managing Director of Equivox added “Equivox is delighted to have received this award together with such a strong endorsement from Intel of the value that our voice enabled products can bring to users of Smartphones and other wireless devices. We look forward to fortifying our relationship with Intel as we continue to develop and promote voice applications for their platforms.”

Key advantages of using VOXit Mailer are that it:
  • Replaces key-pad or stylus strokes with voice commands that leverage stateof- the-art word recognition to give a hands-free operation that improves productivity whilst on the move
  • Controls navigation around the inbox using spoken phrases such as ‘read’, ‘advance’, ‘stop’, ‘reply’, ‘close inbox’
  • Reads emails aloud using clear and natural sounding Text-to-Speech technology
  • Exploits wireless connectivity so users can download, listen to, forward, create or respond to emails instantaneously
  • Saves time by reducing the email backlog faced by users when they return to the office

Interestingly there is a "download trial" link at the web site of this company, but unfortunately it is not working! It looks like this product is not quite ready yet...
