Synthesis AG presents SyncML / OMA DS clients for SmartPhone 2003 and Pocket PC 2003 January 05, 2004 [General] | By anonymous 1. SyncML is something like ActiveSync - a means for synchronization of data - but based on open industry standards (XML) and it is being implemented in several mobile devices across various platforms (it´s not platform specific). 
Previously we have noticed, that Microsoft participates through Mike Wehrs in Open Mobile Architecture (OMA) events, despite the fact that Microsoft does not want neither to use nor to implement OMA standars, like for example "SyncML" (click here to read more about Mike Wehrs). Apparently somebody else - not just we - thought, that Windows Mobile devices (MS Smartphone, Pocket PC) need this technology: Synthesis AG - a company from Switzerland - just released full featured SyncML client both for Microsoft Smartphone 2003 platform and, in parallel, also for Pocket PC 2003! Here is more info from Synthesis AG: Synthesis AG now offers a full featured SyncML client for the Microsoft Smartphone2003 platform. The new client includes support for contacts, calendar entries, todo items and emails with attachments. With this new product, Smartphone2003 based devices can be seamlessly integrated into SyncML based environments, such as Synthesis SyncML Server 2.0 or the powerful office2go and enterprise2go mobile office products from our strategic partner space2go.com. Using Synthesis´ SyncML technology with MS based Smartphones makes them synchronize in heterogenous environments which include PalmOS, PocketPC and Symbian OS based handheld and phone devices. Using space2go.com´s enterprise2go technology, all these devices can synchronize with your company´s Exchange or Lotus Notes based groupware solution. In parallel, Synthesis AG also officially announces support for the PocketPC2003 (already made available a few weeks ago) and releases new improved versions of all its client and server products (Version 2.0.4). The new versions are updated to work with most recent SyncML/OMA DS compatible devices from Nokia, Siemens, SonyEricsson and many others.
